Presley Gerber, the 27-year-old model and only son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died Sunday at a rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles County.
Los Angeles County Medical Examiner online records confirm Gerber died at the facility, Fox News Digital reported. No cause of death has been released, and an autopsy has not yet been completed. A representative for Cindy Crawford confirmed the death and issued a brief statement on behalf of the family.
"The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time," the representative said.
Gerber had struggled publicly with addiction and mental health issues for years. Vogue, in an August 2026 cover story featuring his younger sister Kaia Gerber, described his journey as a "decade-long struggle with drug addiction", a characterization that tracks with a trail of public episodes stretching back at least to 2019, when he was charged with a DUI.
Presley Gerber signed with IMG Models at age 15 and made his runway debut at Moschino's show in Los Angeles in 2016. He went on to star in a Calvin Klein campaign, appear in a fragrance ad for Celine, and walk for Dolce & Gabbana and Tommy Hilfiger. Born into one of fashion's most recognizable families, he carried a name that opened doors few others could.
But behind the runway bookings, trouble mounted. The 2019 DUI charge was one of the earliest public signs. By December 2025, Gerber posted an Instagram video, later deleted, in which he spoke openly about taking Xanax, Valium, and buprenorphine. He discussed panic attacks and the grinding work of recovery.
In that video, as reported by People magazine, Gerber laid out his reasons for going public:
"Unfortunately, I've had a lot of loss in many different forms recently, so that is not an excuse, but it's the reason why I am where I'm at now."
He added that he wanted others to know they were not alone, and that he hoped speaking up might connect him with people willing to help.
Gerber's 24-year-old sister, Kaia, herself a prominent model and actress, addressed her brother's struggles in a Vogue cover story published in August 2026. Her words painted a picture of a family reshaped by addiction.
"When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone."
Kaia said the experience changed how she saw herself within the family. She described beginning to "self-identify as the easy one" and refusing to ask for help because "it felt like too much to have two children who were needing."
She also spoke about the tension between privacy and honesty, a tension familiar to any family dealing with addiction, and sharpened by fame. Kaia described her brother as a kind of unwilling teacher for the family:
"My parents, for most of our lives, were very, very private and didn't share anything, and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, 'I'm gonna be very human for everyone.' There's only so much you can hide from the world. And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you're ashamed of them."
In February 2023, Gerber appeared on the Studio 22 podcast and framed his own pain as something he hoped to make useful. He spoke with the kind of directness that people in recovery often carry, no polish, no spin.
"Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that's all I need to do."
As recently as May 2026, Gerber appeared alongside his parents and sister at a launch event for Kaia's collaboration with the fashion brand RE/DONE in Los Angeles. By all visible accounts, the family remained close even as they navigated his ongoing battle.
Now that battle is over. The Medical Examiner's autopsy remains pending. The family has asked for space.
Presley Gerber was 27, young enough that every adult who has watched addiction hollow out a family will recognize the loss, and old enough that the years of public struggle make the ending feel less like a shock than a grief long dreaded.
