Last week, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard dropped a bombshell announcement, alleging that the Obama administration crafted the Russian collusion hoax to take down Donald Trump.
Since then, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) has called for a full investigation and a possible referral to the DOJ for criminal charges.
Former President Barack Obama has usually ignored comments like these in the past, but he must sense the momentum growing against him, as he just delivered a very carefully worded denial.
Going back to Trump’s first term, there have been a lot of questions surrounding former CIA Director John Brennan.
During the early days of the investigations into the Steele dossier, there were allegations made that Brennan overruled his analysts to push the dossier even though it had been discredited by multiple sources.
DNI Gabbard has dropped bombshell allegations on Brennan, painting him as the main architect of this narrative against Trump, apparently at Obama’s request.
The new report on the Russian collusion investigation stated that Brennan "ordered the post-election publication of 15 reports containing previously collected but unpublished intelligence, three of which were substandard -- containing information that was unclear, of uncertain origin, potentially biased, or implausible -- and those became foundational sources for the ICA judgements that Putin preferred Trump over Clinton."
When you have heard me dismiss Trump’s claim that he won the 2020 election, I often cite the fact that Rep. Jordan has never backed Trump’s claims, believing that if there was one member of Congress who would give this claim credibility, it would be him.
I will be the first to admit that Jordan is a Trump loyalist, but he generally does not waste taxpayer money on conspiracy investigations, which is why his statements about Brennan and the new DNI report really caught my attention.
Jordan stated, “It’s between election day and inauguration day, and they’re figuring out what to do. They have this meeting on December 9 [2016], in the Oval Office, all the key players are there, Comey, Clapper, Brennan, McCabe, Lynch, you name it, the whole team is there."
The congressman continues, “It’s at this meeting where it looks like President Obama decided we’re not going to accept the intelligence community assessment that President Trump and Russia had no collusion.”
Obama is clearly getting worried about the situation, and his denial tells me more about his guilt than proving his innocence. The former commander in chief addressed these allegations through his spokesperson, stating, "Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response. But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one."
He added, "These bizarre allegations are ridiculous and a weak attempt at distraction. Nothing in the document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes."
The comments about the findings of the report are accurate, and they were confirmed by a committee that, at the time, was headed by then-Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), but the conclusion was that the Russian influence had no direct impact on the election itself. This is an entirely different subject from whether a narrative was fabricated by the Obama administration to take out Trump.
If you look at the history of our country’s elections over the last few decades, foreign countries have always tried to interfere, but they have never been successful. The narrative Jordan and Gabbard are talking about attempted to directly tie the 2016 Trump campaign to that interference. And if you notice the Obama statement, that is not actually covered by his denial. With every passing day, these claims get a bit more teeth, at least in my opinion.
