Earlier today, an attack took place at a local ICE facility in Dallas during what was supposed to be a routine detainee transport operation.
No ICE agents were harmed in the attack, so the left had already jumped on the narrative that was conducted by a right-wing extremist who targeted illegal immigrants. More facts are now coming out, however, including an “anti-ICE” message on the bullets used.
Regardless of the motive at this point, it is hard not to point a finger at Democrats for their rhetoric, clearly designed to get people all fired up on this issue.
A fact that cannot be denied is the rise in violent attacks against ICE agents in this country.
Only a few days ago, the Trump administration released a report stating that, based on the same period from last year, attacks are now up by more than 1,000%, yet California Gov. Gavin Newsom just signed the “No Secret Police Act” to unmask agents in California while conducting raids.
Trump administration spokesperson Tricia McLaughin stated, “Governor Gavin Newsom is fanning the flames of division, hatred and dehumanization of our law enforcement. At a time that ICE law enforcement faces a 1,000% increase in assaults and their family members are being doxxed and targeted, the sitting Governor of California signs unconstitutional legislation that strips law enforcement of protections in a disgusting, diabolical fundraising and PR stunt.”
She continued, “He signed this piece of legislation the same day his team made a menacing threat against Secretary Kristi Noem online. The violent rhetoric and demonization must stop. To be crystal clear: we will not abide by Newsom’s unconstitutional ban.”
This time, one of these attacks turned deadly, as the alleged gunman opened fire on agents and detainees during a transport move, with the Associated Press now reporting that two detainees were killed and another injured (earlier reports only had one detainee killed).
The suspect in the shooting has been identified, and the FBI reported that an anti-ICE message was inscribed on at least one bullet casing found.
After reports of the incident emerged, Vice President JD Vance demanded, “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop.”
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) added, “To every politician who is using rhetoric demonizing ICE and demonizing CPB: stop.”
Only hours before the attack, Newsom had been railing against ICE on national television.
He stated, “People ask, ‘Well, is authoritarianism you being hyperbolic?’ Bulls–t we’re being hyperbolic. If you’re a black or brown community, it’s here in this country… These are not just authoritarian tendencies; these are authoritarian actions by an authoritarian government.”
He later added, “That’s happening in the United States of America: Masked men jumping out of unmarked cars, people disappearing, no due process, no oversight, zero accountability. This can’t be normalized. None of this can be normalized.”
There is an argument, even among some conservatives, that we should only be deporting the people who have committed a crime other than the crime of crossing our border illegally, but I am not one of them. And if you want to know why, just listen to the argument made by border czar Tom Homan while talking to Bill Maher. These agents are doing their jobs, simply detaining people who broke our immigration laws. They should not be demonized and targeted for that, but that is exactly what Democrats are doing to them… and now two people are dead because of it.
