All hell is about to break loose in Minnesota with local officials, ICE, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, and the Trump administration.
A woman was shot and killed by ICE agents in what is being described by many as an attempt on one of the agents’ lives.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey responded to the incident by demanding that ICE immediately leave Minnesota.
I have only seen limited video of the shooting, but this situation is fuzzy at best.
You see agents approach a woman’s car, commanding her to exit the vehicle. You then hear some voices while the agents approach the car and try to open the door.
The woman puts the car in gear and reverses as an agent positions himself in front of the vehicle with his weapon drawn.
When the woman moves the car forward, the agent moves sideways to avoid the vehicle and opens fire, shooting and killing the driver of the car.
Without seeing a full video or hearing everything that was said, I don’t want to speculate on the shooting one way or the other, but Donald Trump has already come out to support the agent.
He stated, "It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense."
Trump added, "Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital."
Noem later reported that the agent in question had been involved in a previous incident in which he was dragged by a vehicle.
Frey did not see things in the same way, stating, “Get the f--- out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety, and you are doing exactly the opposite. People are being hurt, families are being ripped apart."
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin responded that the shooting was a "direct consequence of constant attacks and demonization of our officers by sanctuary politicians who fuel and encourage rampant assaults on our law enforcement, who are facing 1,300% increase in assaults against them and an 8,000% increase in death threats."
I get why agents are on edge, and Democrats have not made it any easier with the rhetoric they have been spewing about them.
I have stated for weeks that it was only a matter of time before someone got killed in one of these confrontations, and now it has happened. Had that woman not been there to protest ICE, she would likely be alive today. Now she is gone, and a powder keg has been lit.
