For weeks, there has been unrest in Iran over the collapse of the currency.
Trump has already threatened Iranian leadership that if it starts to kill innocent protesters, the United States will be forced to take action.
Now, it appears as though Iran is bringing in militia forces to do its dirty work.
The protests initially started to push back against the collapse of Iran’s currency, but it has grown much larger.
Since then, students have joined, as well as many business owners, closing down shops to protest.
By the end of December, President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that he was willing to negotiate to quell the protests, but what was there really to negotiate in terms of the economy?
The son of the late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Reza Pahlavi, now exiled in the United States, commented, "As long as this regime remains in power, the country's economic situation will continue to deteriorate.”
We have all seen in the past how Iran deals with situations such as this, and Trump made a preemptive strike.
He stated, "If Iran shots [sic] and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue."
Khamenei adviser Ali Larijani responded, "Trump should know that US interference in this internal matter would mean destabilizing the entire region and destroying America's interests.”
Iran was supposed to hold public executions, but it backed off at the last minute, which drew praise from Trump, but now Iran has made a move in a different direction.
Ali Safavi, a senior official with the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), reported, "There has been a deployment of dozens of Toyotas mounted with heavy machine guns (DShK) and other heavy weapons in Tehran.”
The militia was witnessed firing off shots throughout the city, but it was not make clear if they were just firing for effect or shooting at civilians.
He further noted, "The regime has brought in at least 5,000 foreign elements now from Iraq and Hezbollah to control Tehran.”
It appears that the Iranian leadership is going to allow the militia to do the killing if need be to keep the city under control. If blood is spilled, that would be Iran calling Trump’s bluff. Who will blink first?
