With the New York City mayoral race now only about two months away from declaring a winner, everyone is trying to find something that will ring true with New Yorkers to disqualify Zohran Mamdani from voters pulling the handle for him.
The latest attempt relates to his relationship with social media star Hasan Piker.
Piker is an uber-progressive who once dared to say the United States “deserved” 9/11, and he and Mamdani appear to be buddies.
If you look into the history of Mamdani, you start to realize why a lot of Democrats are wary of endorsing him, especially those of Jewish faith.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been calling out Democrats for not standing behind him after he got the nod in the Democratic Party primary, but I fully understand their hesitancy.
For instance, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro did not like the fact that Mandani refused to condemn the saying, “globalize the intifada.”
Shapiro further stated, “He also seemed to run a campaign where he left open far too much space for extremists to either use his words or for him to not condemn the words of extremists that said some blatantly antisemitic things.”
Piker has become a very popular streamer, and he has no fear of saying extremely controversial things.
The New York Times ran a profile piece on him, making him out to be a progressive mind in the body of a MAGA stalwart. Oddly enough, the profile did not mention his comments about 9/11.
Piker has been very critical of our nation's foreign policy, and he was even called out by Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) for having stated that “America deserved 9/11.”
He later tried to defend his comments, saying that his remarks were satirical, and he should have used “more precise” language. This is a typical explanation from the left when they create outrage… not an apology, just another lame excuse.
There is a lot being made about a post Mamdani made on social media, as he and Piker looked like best buds in it, something that was not well-received by some New Yorkers.
Wendy Turturici, who was inspired to become a medic after the Sept. 11 attack, stated, “How can you hang around with someone who said, ‘America deserved 9/11?’ That’s disgraceful. Mamdani doesn’t deserve to be mayor. I’m calling on [him] to disavow Hasan Piker and his hateful words.”
Families of the victims of 9/11 are also outraged, unable to comprehend the fact that fellow New Yorkers are willing to pull the lever for someone associated with a person like Piker.
This is a possible win for mayoral hopeful and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and I hope he takes advantage of it. If not, we are going to be handing our largest American city over to a socialist who appears to be an antisemite as well as someone who hangs out with people who think our country deserved 9/11.
