Zohran Mamdani refuses to endorse NY Gov. Kathy Hochul

Over the last few weeks, progressive Democrats have been pressuring party members to endorse socialist Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral race.

Mamdani defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic Party primary, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has been vocal in calling for everyone else in the party to now fall in line behind him.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is one of those previously held back her endorsement, and even though she just caved and offered it to Mamdani, the gesture was not returned.

Back our guy

With fewer than two months to go before the NYC mayoral election, there were still some prime New York Democrats who had not endorsed Mamdani.

The most notable were Hochul, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

AOC was furious that the big names had not gotten in line behind her guy, and she lashed out, stating, “We have a Democratic nominee. Are we a party who rallies behind our nominee or not?”

“Because what we do is we use our primary to settle our differences, and once we have a nominee we rally behind that nominee. I am very concerned about the example that is being set by anybody in our party … if an individual doesn’t want to support the party’s nominee now, it complicates their ability to ask voters to support any nominee later.”

He didn’t do it

While AOC was whining about Mandani not receiving endorsements, let’s not forget what the candidate himself had done during the 2024 presidential election.

Mamdani actually urged Democrats NOT to vote for anyone in last November's contest.

In March 2024, he stated, “As proud Democrats and elected officials and New Yorkers, we endorse the Leave it Blank campaign.”

So, now that Mamdani needs endorsements, will he repay the favor? The answer to that question appears to be no.

Not returning the favor

Hochul just backed Mamdani, explaining in the New York Times, “Tonight I am endorsing Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani. In the past few months, I’ve had frank conversations with him."

She continued, “We’ve had our disagreements. But in our conversations, I heard a leader who shares my commitment to a New York where children can grow up safe in their neighborhoods and where opportunity is within reach for every family. I heard a leader who is focused on making New York City affordable -- a goal I enthusiastically support.”

When asked if he would return the favor and endorse Hochul for re-election, he responded, “My focus is on November. And I’m excited to have the governor’s support in that fight for November as we make it clear that that we can put the days of City Hall and Albany being at war in the past.”

Be careful with this one, Democrats, as Mamdani clearly has desires well beyond running New York City. If he wins his current race, and right now it looks like a lock, we face a real dilemma in this country and see a complete shift away from our Constitution by the Democratic Party. Slowly, but surely, they are dismantling our Constitution from within.
