Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s wife has created another PR nightmare for the young mayor after liking posts about October 7 being called a hoax.
The mayor has tried to defend her, saying that she likes her private life.
Ironically, many of the criticisms leveled at the previous administration are being embraced by the media when it comes to Mamdani.
When Eric Adams was the mayor of New York City, he was regularly ridiculed for being out and about in the city.
The complete opposite has been done with Mamdani, as the New York Times even ran a piece on him several weeks after taking office, talking about how much of a fun guy he was.
The piece highlighted the mayor’s mansion in a way that I have never seen before, just gushing about the area and what Mamdani could do to liven things up.
The writer even offered advice for the mayor and his young wife, suggesting, “After dinner, Mr. Mamdani and Ms. Duwaji might seek more entertainment. Drinks, go-go dancers and late-night gyrating can be found at Ethyl’s, a 1970s-inspired bar on Second Avenue near East 85th Street. A framed satin Studio 54 jacket adorns one of the walls, alongside photos of Cher, Pam Grier and David Bowie.”
This week, a report blew up over social media posts that had been liked by the mayor’s wife.
Rama Duwaji, Mamdani's wife, reportedly liked a post that was made on Instagram in February 2024 that claimed the October 7 attack against Israel was “fabricated.”
Through last weekend, her like on the post was still there; you would have thought her profile would have been scrubbed by now.
When asked for comments, Mamdani’s office responded, "Mayor Mamdani has been clear and consistent: Hamas is a terrorist organization, October 7th was a horrific war crime and he has condemned that violence unequivocally."
Mamdani has now been forced on the defensive, once again defending someone close to him who appears to be a clear antisemite.
He is now defending her by saying she is not the one elected to office, responding, “My wife is the love of my life and she’s also a private person who has held no formal position on my campaign or in my City Hall.
“I, however, was elected to represent all eight and a half million people in this city, and I believe that it’s my responsibility, because of that role, to answer any questions about my thoughts and my policies and my decisions.”
Well, then, if that is the case, let’s ask him how he feels about the posts from Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife about the results of the 2020 election and see if he feels the same way.
