Mamdani asks lawmakers for 2% tax increase on wealthiest residents

Mamdani had always wanted to give away the city, but to do that, he would need a lot more money.

The city is in a deficit, and his plans will cost the city even more, so now Mamdani is putting pressure on lawmakers.

The socialist golden boy wants his 2% tax hike. And now he is really applying the pressure to lawmakers to give it to him.

Wishful thinking

Mamdani is typical of a liberal politician; he promised the world with no real way to pay for it already in place.

He was throwing around big numbers for free public transportation, childcare, housing, and a host of other policies, all to be paid for by a tax hike on businesses and the city’s wealthiest.

But like most politicians, he has no business sense, and he was spending the same money over and over again, as if it would reproduce once it was in the city coffers.

When Mamdani was challenged on his numbers, his response was comical. He said that he was more concerned with “funding the affordability agenda” and “not the question of how.” I hate to break it to you, Zohran, but you need to have a how answered before you do anything else.

Just ignore him

New York Governor Kathy Hochul was seeing some pressure from the young mayor after he took office, but she tried to brush it off.

When Hochul was asked about Mandani’s plan on getting the lion’s share of the state tax income, she responded, “That’s not new. He’s been saying it since he was running for office a year ago.”

She continued, “So right, with the news flashes, I have said the news flash, maybe to you if you haven’t heard me, we’re not raising taxes in the state of New York. I’m not raising taxes for the sake of raising taxes. So he’ll continue to say what he needs to say.”

Hochul had further stated that she would give Mamdani his childcare program, but that was going to eat up the surplus, so that is about as far as she would go.

He wants that money

Even before Mamdani’s giveaway, he is staring down the barrel at a $12 billion shortfall.

Now he is deciding how much everyone can afford to pay, stating, “The top 1% of New York City can afford to contribute $20,000 more in taxes. That 2% tax alone would resolve nearly half of our budget deficit. I will continue to advocate for these policies not only because they offer the most direct route out of this budget crisis, but because they will also transform what is possible in our state.”

Officials were not exactly happy with the numbers that Mamdani has been spewing, with one official stating, “This is completely irresponsible for the mayor and comptroller to put out to create a panic when there is no need.”

He’s coming for your money, folks, so if you live in New York, you'd better get ready to open up that wallet. I can see him blaming everything on the state government, then running for governor to say he can fix this problem if he gets higher up and has more control over the tax structure. They created a monster.
