London Mayor Sadiq Khan accused in ‘cover up’ of grooming gangs

The feud between Donald Trump and London Mayor Sadiq Khan goes back to the president's first term, and it has only escalated during his second term.

During a recent state visit to the U.K., Trump and Khan went at it again.

Now, however, everything Trump has been saying about Khan seems to ring true after the mayor has been accused of a massive cover-up of “grooming” gangs operating in his city.

Didn’t want him there

Under normal circumstances, the mayor of London would have been included in the festivities surrounding an American president's state visit, but Khan was absent during the formal events held for Trump during his recent trip abroad.

The president explained, "I asked that he not be there.”

Trump continued, "I think the mayor of London Khan is among the worst mayors in the world, and we have some bad ones.”

He then poured it on even more, adding, "I think he's done a terrible job. Crime in London is through the roof. I asked that he not be there. He wanted to be there, as I understand, I didn't want him."

Racist and sexist

Trump also hit Khan during his recent U.N. General Assembly speech, claiming that the London mayor wants to start to implement Sharia in the city he leads.

Khan responded, "I think President Trump has shown he is racist, he is sexist, he is misogynistic, and he is Islamophobic."

He continued, "When people say things, when people act in a certain way, when people behave in a certain way, you've got to believe them.”

I think it is safe to say these two don’t like each other one bit, and although the next part of this story is just horrific in nature, I am going to guess that Trump will be quick with an “I told you so” if the investigation implicates Khan in any way.

Nasty allegations

For me, it does not get any worse than crimes against children, and when people help cover up those crimes, in my eyes, they are just as guilty as those who perpetrated them. To that point, Khan is now being accused of participating in a massive cover-up of grooming gangs operating in his city.

The suggestion blew up after reports surfaced of Pakistani Muslim men abusing young white girls in London, conduct that allegedly included rape and sexual exploitation. Khan has nastily refuted the claims that such gangs exist in his city, but an investigation by the Daily Express says otherwise.

In one part of its report, the outlet claimed, “Another example in the document was of a 13-year-old the police had ruled was at risk of sexual exploitation. She was found alone in a house with three men. But, instead of safeguarding the child, she was arrested and the group of men not even questioned.”

Reform UK MP Lee Anderson responded to the report, “There is real, credible evidence that grooming gangs exist in London, and for the Mayor to have potentially turned a blind eye is utterly shameful.” Again, this is a horrific situation, if true, and while there is no solace to be taken in doing so, I am sure Trump will be telling everyone how right he was about Khan from the outset.
