Last week, a mass shooter was taken down by police officers, and the nation was stunned to learn that the officers in Austin could possibly go before a grand jury.
National outrage ensued, and Austin District Attorney José Garza caved on his policy to investigate every officer-involved shooting.
Rather than face the wrath of the public, he called the cops heroes and said there would be no investigation.
The shooting was horrific, as a man in a “Property of Allah” shirt opened fire in the downtown Austin area. Various sources had different claims for wounded, but we know there were at least three dead, and 14 or more wounded.
Texas lawyer Doug O’Connell had been immediately tapped to represent the officers involved in the shooting that saved countless lives.
O’Connell stated, “The district attorney, at the direction of the Wren Collective, insists on presenting every officer involved shooting to a grand jury.”
He later added, “Grand juries in Texas are secret, meaning only the prosecutors are in the room. The prosecutors control what evidence the grand jury sees, and they have no obligation to present exculpatory evidence. We know from other police prosecutions, this one-sided presentation is how the Travis County DA has obtained indictments in the past. Every time an officer has to confront a violent criminal they may be indicted if the DA doesn’t like their actions.”
It did not take long for the Soros-backed DA to realize that this was neither the place nor the time to push his legal agenda.
As rumors started to fly about his review procedure, he immediately backed down, stating, “These officers are heroes, and it should go without saying that my office is not seeking any charges and would not seek charges. The accounts to the contrary are false, intentionally false, and are being peddled for obvious political purposes.”
Even if Garza had decided to put these officers before a grand jury, Governor Abbott warned, “These police officers are heroes who saved lives. Whatever the DA does, I will have the final say in the fate of these police officers.”
You know what they say… don’t mess with Texas.
Overall, I believe Kash Patel has done a really good job running the FBI, but I have to wonder why someone like 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne was not on the agency’s radar, especially with all the information we learned after the fact.
It was not like this guy was hiding under a rock regarding his beliefs.
After the fact, the FBI said there were several indicators that the individual had been radicalized, but I was pretty sure we had monitoring in place that would have picked that all up well before the fact.
I am not going to say this was an outright failure by Patel and the FBI, but it will hopefully serve as a learning experience for them to widen their parameters to ensure nothing this horrific ever takes place again.
