Last week, something I never thought I would see actually took place, namely, the indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James
Prosecutors had been working the grand jury for months, and reports did not look promising, yet an indictment of James finally came down.
And when the indictment came to light, Democrats erupted, and now James herself has come out swinging, trying to push the party-line narrative of political weaponization with the media.
On Oct. 9, it was announced that James had formally been indicted by the grand jury reviewing allegations against the New York AG.
Lindsey Halligan, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, stated, “No one is above the law. The charges as alleged in this case represent intentional, criminal acts and tremendous breaches of the public’s trust.”
She added, “The facts and the law in this case are clear, and we will continue following them to ensure that justice is served.”
If James is found guilty, she could theoretically be sentenced up to 30 years per count, but I don’t see that happening. There are still some landmines the DOJ has to sidestep before even getting this case into court, including defense claims that Halligan is an illegal appointment and that the prosecution is targeted political revenge.
It took about five seconds for New York Democrats to sound off against the DOJ for its prosecution of James, with Gov. Kathy Hochul leading the charge.
She stated, "New Yorkers know [Letitia James] for her integrity, her independence, and her relentless fight for justice. What we're seeing today is nothing less than the weaponization of the Justice Department to punish those who hold the powerful accountable.”
Rep. Richie Torres (D-NY) stated, "It is the latest salvo in Donald Trump's unrelenting war against American democracy. Rather than addressing the grocery and utility bills crushing American families, Donald Trump remains pathologically preoccupied with his personal enemies list. The persecution of political rivals has become the singular obsession of his failing presidency.”
I won’t bore you with the rest of the statements, as they were all pretty much cookie-cutter copies of one another. What I will say, however, is that Dems loved it when James went after Donald Trump in a civil fraud case, yet now that a grand jury has indicted her, it somehow constitutes an act of political revenge. You either broke the law or you didn’t, and it will all wash out in court.
James and Democrats are working this angle to claim that she is now a victim, and the AG herself pushed that narrative hard this week.
She stated, “We see powerful voices trying to silence truth and punish dissent and weaponize justice for political gain,” while attending a rally for Zohran Mamdani. She then added, “We are witnessing the fraying of our democracy, the erosion of our system of government.”
James then added, “I know what it feels like to be attacked for just doing your job. But I also know what it feels like to overcome adversity. And so I stand on solid rock. I will not bow! I will not break! I will not bend! I will not capitulate! I will not give in! I will not give up! You come for me, you got to come through all of us! Every single -- all of us. We’re all in this together.”
I could not help but laugh over that last line, as it is identical to the rallying cry Trump used to get his supporters behind him when he was prosecuted. But like I said, you either committed a crime or you didn’t, and the grand jury believed there was enough evidence to put this woman on trial. Having said that, yes, I am still concerned that we will get a biased judge and jury, and she could walk free, which would be a major backfire on Bondi and this administration because the media will eat it up.
