Kirk widow finds it in her heart to forgive husband's alleged killer

Erika Kirk has proven herself to be a remarkable woman during some very difficult times.

I can flat out tell you that if the situation were reversed, and my spouse had been murdered, I would want justice.

Yet, somehow, she managed to offer forgiveness to her husband's accused killer rather than hate or anger, which is why she is a far better human being than I am capable of ever becoming.

The ‘man of steel’

Before we get into Erika Kirk’s comments, I wanted to touch base on a rather remarkable report from Charlie Kirk’s doctor. I was watching a stream of Kirk’s appearance on the day of the shooting, and I was certain the blood had come from an exit wound. At the same time, I was stunned that the bullet had not struck anyone else.

It turns out, I was wrong, as the blood flow came from the entrance wound because there was no exit wound, as Kirk’s bone mass reportedly absorbed the full force of the bullet and stopped it cold, likely preventing someone else from, at the very least, being wounded, if not killed.

The surgeon who tried to save Kirk after the shooting reportedly told Turning Point USA representative Andrew Kolvet what had happened. He posted to X, “I’m usually not interested in delving into most of this kind of online chatter, and I apologize this is somewhat graphic, but in this case, the fact that there wasn’t an exit wound is probably another miracle, and I want people to know.”

He added, “I just spoke with the surgeon who worked on Charlie in the hospital … He said the bullet ‘absolutely should have gone through, which is very very normal for a high-powered, high-velocity round,.’ ‘I’ve seen wounds from this caliber many times and they always just go through everything. This would have taken a moose or two down, an elk, etc.’ But it didn’t go through. Charlie’s body stopped it.”

Kolvet said the doctor further stated, ‘It was an absolute miracle that someone else didn’t get killed. His bone was so healthy and the density was so so impressive that he’s like the man of steel. It should have just gone through and through. It likely would have killed those standing behind him too.’ In the end, the coroner did find the bullet just beneath the skin. Even in death, Charlie managed to save the lives of those around him. Remarkable. Miraculous.”

Finding forgiveness

That story is rather amazing, and, hopefully, it will shut down the ridiculous conspiracy theories running rampant. Moving on, even more remarkable than that story is the forgiveness offered by Kirk’s widow at Sunday's memorial service in Arizona.

Erika Kirk stated that Charlie "wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life.” She then added, "Our Savior said, 'Father, forgive them, for they not know what they do.' That young man … I forgive him. I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it's what Charlie would do."

She also told a story about something Charlie had said before a show, explaining that Kirk had cited one of his favorite Bible verses, Isaiah 6:8: "Here I am, Lord. Send me.” She continued, "After Charlie finished, I met him backstage and I spoke to him … I said, Charlie, baby, please talk to me next time before you say that statement. Because when you say something like that, there is so much power in that verse … God will take you up on that, and He did."

Trump honors Charlie

Donald Trump and Charlie Kirk met many years ago, and a bond was formed that continued until the longtime conservative activist took his last breath. Attending the memorial service was a no-brainer for Trump, and he honored Charlie, stating, "I know I speak for everyone here today when I say that none of us will ever forget Charlie Kirk, and neither will history.”

Trump described Kirk as a “martyr for American freedom,” adding, “He didn't deserve this and our country didn't deserve this.”

When Trump was finished speaking, Erika joined him on stage, sharing an emotional embrace as “God Bless America” played in the stadium.

Trump will honor Kirk one more time, presenting his widow and children with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian honor bestowed in this country.  Generally speaking, the award has become a way for presidents to gush over Hollywood stars and wealthy donors, but this time, well, it will actually mean something.
