Over the last few weeks, one of the hottest stories in politics has been the NYC mayoral race.
Democrat socialist Zohran Mamdani shocked the entire country by taking the Democratic Party primary, handily beating former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Cuomo is now running as an independent, but the news is not very good for him regarding the upcoming election.
The primary race was something that most people expected to go to Cuomo, especially after Democrats pulled out the big guns, like Bill Clinton, to endorse the former governor.
When all was said and done, Mamdani crushed Cuomo, beating him 56-44% in the final vote. This sent a shock wave through the Democratic Party establishment. The truly sad aspect of this is that the GOP never took the election seriously, so they have a mediocre candidate in the race.
After the win, Mamdani stated, “I am humbled by the support of more than 545,000 New Yorkers in last week’s primary."
He continued, “This is just the beginning of our expanding coalition to make New York City affordable. And we will do it together.”
Since Mamdani prevailed in the primary, there has been a lot of negative information emerging about the mayoral hopeful.
Mamdani had begun showing signs of slippage in a poll that was taken just prior to many of the unflattering stories coming out, so I was sure that subsequent surveys would show him collapsing, but the complete opposite seems to have happened.
While Cuomo still has the best shot at beating Mamdani, virtually every poll now has Mamdani over 50%, even in a head-to-head battle against the former governor.
Now, Cuomo is losing even more support, as the people of New York City are clearly looking to make a far left turn in government.
Cuomo took a major hit when Staten Island Democrats openly endorsed Mamdani over their former governor, pointing to his record of corruption and sexual harassment as to why they would not be supporting him.
Laura LoBianco Sword, chairwoman of the borough’s Democratic Party, stated, “Zohran is the Democratic nominee. The voters have spoken.”
She then added, “We want to work together. I want to make sure Staten Island has a seat at the table.”
We have also seen DNC chair Ken Martin come out with words of support for Mamdani, while not outright endorsing him. The party seems ready to embrace the socialist, regardless of the fact that everything about him goes directly against our Constitution. Dems love to call Trump a threat to the country, but the real threat is the Democratic Party, which will do anything to maintain power.
