Kai Trump opens up about added attention famous grandfather brings

Kai Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and granddaughter of President Donald Trump became an overnight sensation last summer after she spoke at the Republican National Convention.

Until that moment, she was “just” Donald Trump’s granddaughter who was occasionally seen with the president on his courses.

That day changed everything, thrusting Kai onto the national scene with a big spotlight on her every move, which she now admits can be a bit overwhelming.

The inspiration

As the 2024 RNC was approaching, a man named Thomas Crooks decided that he wanted to try to end Donald Trump’s life, taking a shot at him during a Butler, Pennsylvania, campaign rally.

Kai was on a fishing trip with her father at the time, and they rushed back to shore when news spread that Donald Trump had been shot in a failed assassination attempt.

Jr. said that the assassination attempt had a huge impact on Kai, stating that she "has probably spent more time with my dad one-on-one than I have" as she "plays [golf] with him every weekend when he was around, and that was all the time."

The next morning, Kai told her father, “You know what? I want to speak at the RNC.”

The speech

The one thing the media never wants to do is portray Donald Trump as a human being, a father, and a grandfather, as that takes away from the bad orange man image it has created.

Kai knew what she was doing when she spoke. It was like watching a mother plead for the life of her child after a kidnapping or hostage situation. Her words were meant to make him just a regular guy, or in this case, just normal, loving grandpa.

At the RNC, she stated, “He calls me during the middle of the school day to ask how my golf game is going and tells me all about his. But then I have to remind him that I’m in school, and I’ll have to call him back later."

She later added, “On Saturday, I was shocked when I heard that he had been shot, and I just wanted to know if he was okay. It was heartbreaking that someone would do that to another person. A lot of people have put my grandpa through hell, and he’s still standing.” And with those words, a star was born.

A lot to handle

Kai is a talented, beautiful young lady, so she was already going to get attention once she went to college as a Trump, but that spotlight was turned up considerably after her speech, and Kai suddenly found herself on par with some major social media influencers.

She embraced the role, doing man-on-the-street interviews at conservative functions and posting a lot more content about her life and the things going on in her family. She admits, this has been “a lot to handle,” but she stated she “wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Kai has a great opportunity, and she knows it. She has already used her family’s business savvy to lock down a couple of NIL deals to start her college career, securing endorsement contracts with Accelerator sports drink and TaylorMade.

Once the golf season starts, the attention will only become more focused. I hope she realizes that the media and trolls will be all over her golf performance, just like they are with those of Tiger Woods' son Charlie. I wish her nothing but the best of luck, as I think this young lady has an amazing future ahead of her, that is as long as she can shut out the noise when needed and stay focused on her long-term goals.
