After the shooting of Renee Good, DHS took over the investigation and blocked local officials from having any role in the investigation.
The second shooting is a bit different, and it appeared that Noem had the same plan.
A local judge, however, has blocked the administration from “destroying or altering” evidence, and it is a fairly safe assumption that Governor Tim Walz will sue to have local officials take charge of this investigation.
It took Trump no time at all to come to the defense of the agent after the shooting went viral.
Trump stated, "This is the gunman’s gun, loaded (with two additional full magazines!), and ready to go—What is that all about? Where are the local Police? Why weren’t they allowed to protect ICE Officers?”
He continued, "The Mayor and the Governor called them off? It is stated that many of these Police were not allowed to do their job, that ICE had to protect themselves—Not an easy thing to do!"
The issue here is not a US citizen with a loaded gun. The issue is the aggression toward the officers that led to the shooting. If the GOP keeps going after the armed citizen angle, it will lose this battle. It must concentrate on the actions taken toward the officers.
Democrats have been trying to defund ICE ever since AOC came into office, calling it an illegal agency.
This shooting just gave them the excuse they needed to block the next spending bill, and they are going to play it for all its worth.
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced this weekend that he will not back the bill, stating, "I will vote no. Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included."
These bills were already negotiated, but once again, leadership waited until the last second to pass them, so now we are in danger of yet another shutdown once funding runs out at the end of this month.
The administration was hit with a lawsuit by the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to keep all evidence intact, seemingly so Minnesota officials can take the lead in the investigation.
After Judge Eric Tostrud issued his order, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty stated, "As I said earlier today, I will not rest, my team will not rest, until we have done everything in our power, everything within our authority, to achieve transparency and accountability.”
He continued, "Our office has jurisdiction to review this matter for potential criminal conduct by the federal agents involved and we will do so.”
Democrats are looking to hang murder charges on this ICE agent, and they couldn't care less about the facts. They now have a sympathetic judge in a state where that agent has no chance of getting an unbiased jury. We still don’t have all the facts on the case, but I doubt that matters little to the left, as they are on a mission to not only get this agent but also to defund ICE, and they have the exact scenario they were hoping for to make it happen.
