I have no idea how we got to a place where the widow of an assassinated man is now being viciously targeted by the left, but that is where we are.
It started after Charlie Kirk’s murder, then things went nuclear after Erika Kirk hugged JD Vance on stage at an event.
Now, after Mrs. Kirk suggested that Joy Reid needed a hug, the former cable news host got a bit nasty with her.
Erika Kirk was not born in the South, nor was she raised a southern girl, but she very much has the personality of a southern belle.
To that point, she is a “hug” person, a fact which would come back to haunt her when she greeted Vance at an event.
I have seen that hug a million times in Texas between friends, but the hug went viral, with people making some disgusting insinuations in the process.
Kirk actually had to defend the embrace, saying that her “love language” is touch. She then explained, "He says, 'I'm so proud of you.' And I say, 'God bless you,' and I touch the back of his head. Anyone whom I have hugged, that I have touched the back of your head when I hug you, I always say, 'God bless you.'"
The negative comments about Erika Kirk continued, with Ried mentioning the hug on her podcast. Reid stated, "You not doing that right thing. Supposed to be a widow. You in leather pants? That's not widow-wear.”
She later added, referencing the second lady of the United States, "Wouldn't it be the most perfect fairy tale, MAGA fairy tale, if he finally sees the light that he needs a white queen instead of this brown Hindu? I mean, I'm not saying that's happening, or maybe that Usha is not even in on it. Maybe she is, whatever. But that's one entrant."
Kirk responded to the comments during the recent Turning Point USA (TPUSA) event.
She stated, "Joy Reid probably needs a really, really good hug, and honestly, I’m here for it if she needs it. I’ve got a good hug for you. I will even touch the back of your head."
Apparently, it is okay to ridicule the widow of an assassinated man, but talk about touching Reid’s head, well, that is off limits.
Reid responded to the clap back, "The last thing I will say to Erika Kirk is this: Dear young lady, I don't need a hug from you. First of all, I would never let you get close enough to hug me 'cause I don't trust you.”
She continued, “And second of all, I don't know if anybody ever told you -- you're pretty young -- but don't be offering to touch Black women's hair. We don't allow it. This is not the 19-teens. It's not the 1920s or the 1930s. You cannot come up to me, touch me, or touch my hair. It won't go. I don't allow it. So, don't offer to do that because that's not going to happen."
Reid’s initial comments were clearly meant to spark a reaction in Kirk, but that reaction never came. So now Reid is trying to make this a racist issue, but there is only one person who comes out of this interaction sounding racist, and it surely is not Erika Kirk.
