House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is eating up all the media attention he has received after the BBB passed.
He has revealed whether he plans to run for president, the next steps he plans on taking in Congress, as well as unveiling an impersonation of President Donald Trump.
Johnson also revealed that Elon Musk’s feud with Trump had one especially surprising outcome.
Being a successful House speaker is far from a guarantee when it comes to evolving into a serious presidential candidate, but it surely does not hurt the resume.
Johnson has continued to deliver for the president, which one would think would get him atop the list to possibly follow Trump in the White House, but thankfully, that does not appear to be in the cards for Johnson, at least not yet.
When asked about a possible presidential run, he stated, “I think this job, there’s probably a reason I think there may be only one speaker, James K. Polk, who became president after that, because the job is so all-consuming and encompassing that it wears everybody out.”
In my opinion, Johnson would be a disaster as a presidential candidate. He has zero personality and is not exactly the best public speaker, two requirements to get voters to the polls on election day. And even though he is delivering for Trump, he is not exactly a favorite of MAGA, so I don’t see it happening.
During Johnson’s interview on Pod Force One, Johnson tried to do an impersonation of Trump when he was talking about what they would call the bill.
In his best Trump voice, Johnson recalled Trump stating, “‘What are we going to name it? What are we going to call it?'”
Johnson continued his impersonation, “He goes, ‘No, I just think we call it the One Big Beautiful Bill. Don’t you think that’s great? That’s so simple, it’s great, you know?”
Shockingly, he also revealed that he and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) actually have a rather civil relationship, stating, “She’s very kind. I try not to make enemies around here, and we have bitter policy disputes and disagreements, but it’s not personal. It shouldn’t be.”
The most shocking revelation from the interview, however, was related to Musk.
Johnson revealed that Musk has more or less cut off contact with his former GOP friend, having reportedly changed his number.
The speaker stated, “I sent him a long text message, and then his phone number changed, because after the blow-up, something happened with his.” He then added, “[Later I] realized I was sending it out into the ether somewhere, and he never read it, so I look forward to meeting with him in person. We got to make that right.”
From my viewpoint, that ship has sailed, as Musk seems intent on getting his new America Party off the ground to challenge GOP control of the House and Senate. And if he gets it, you had better believe that Musk will do everything he can to break the GOP on critical legislation to sway his party’s support.
