Rep. Jerry Nadler announces he will not run for re-election

One of President Donald Trump’s largest antagonists in Congress is finally going to leave office.

Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), 78, has announced that he will not be running for re-election.

I am glad he is stepping down for several reasons, but I have to admit, this new wave of Democrats rising to power in New York is terrifying.

Sleepy Jerry

You guys are well-versed on how I feel about the staggering number of lawmakers in Congress who are over 70 years old. It is not so much an age concern as it is the ability of those individuals to relate to most Americans.

With Nadler, however, he has proven that his time has come, and he should have stepped down years ago.

Case in point, last year, during a hearing on victims of violent crime, Nadler appeared to doze off while the victims were giving their testimonies.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) was among the first to call out Nadler, posting to X, “From frustrated families in the audience @JudiciaryGOP hearing listening to witnesses who lost loved ones to violent illegal aliens. Hardly any Dems present -- those who are…….,” which then showed a video of Nadler nodding office.

Moving forward

Nadler was also among the first to endorse Zohran Mamdani for New York City mayor, showing he does not care where the new generation takes the country, as long as Democrats are in power.

The congressman stated, “Voters in New York City demanded change and, with Zohran’s triumph, we have a direct repudiation of Donald Trump’s politics of tax cuts and authoritarianism.”

When Mamdani’s antisemitic actions and words came to light, Nadler deflected, “I’ve spoken to him today about his commitment to fighting antisemitism, and we’ll work with all New Yorkers to fight against all bigotry and hate.”

Like I said… There are no standards any longer, and Democrats surely no longer care about the Constitution. It’s all about power.

Time to go

In his announcement, Nadler at least seemed to recognize that Joe Biden never should have been in office. He stated, “Watching the Biden thing really said something about the necessity for generational change in the party. I think I want to respect that.”

When Nadler was asked about whether other older Democrats should step down, he responded, “I’m not saying we should change over the entire party. But I think a certain amount of change is very helpful, especially when we face the challenge of Trump and his incipient fascism.”

Nadler went down swinging, insisting on fearmongering the American people regarding Trump, when it is actually the Democrat agenda that represents fascism. They want the government to have complete and utter control of your life, penalizing success for the “greater good,” something we talked about in our thought of the day.

Yes, I am glad that Nadler is stepping down, only I hope New Yorkers use some common sense and elect a proud American to office to replace him rather than someone who wants to lean into communism, such as Mamdani.
