One of the reasons I have stated that we need the GOP to defy history and hold the House in the 2026 midterms is because I don’t want to see the government grind to a halt again, just as it did during the second half of Donald Trump’s first term.
Numerous Democrats have made it quite clear that they are not interested in legislating and would love to try to impeach Trump for a third time.
Not only that, but House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) just announced that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem can now be added to the list of targets.
During the last election cycle, then-Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) warned everyone what the Democrat plan would be if Trump won the election.
In October 2024, he stated, “I predict that if they have the votes in the House, they’re gonna start impeachment proceedings the day after he walks into the White House.”
He continued, “That’s how deranged they’ve become about it.”
Thankfully, the GOP had the votes, and they were able to hold the House, but the 2026 midterm elections are a different animal.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) had been hoping to get a leadership position in the House, but it was made clear by the powers that be in her party that it was not going to happen.
Perhaps it was because she was quite open about putting the country through another impeachment attempt targeting Trump.
During a local interview in Texas, when asked about impeaching Trump if she were a committee chair, she responded, "I would absolutely. At least do an inquiry. Absolutely. I mean, I think that there's more than enough to inquire about. You know, we know. Well, we don't know.”
We can now add Noem to that list, as Jeffries revealed he wants to go after her for daring to enforce our immigration laws.
He recently revealed, “It’s my expectation that Kristi Noem will be one of the first people hauled up to Congress shortly after the gavels change hands to get a real understanding for the American people as to this conduct that has taken place."
Jeffries continued, “The lack of respect for due process, for the rule of law, the unleashing of masked agents on law-abiding immigrant communities, and the disappearing of people in some instances, to other countries without any real evidence that criminal behavior took place.”
The Democrat went on to say that the House Oversight Committee would be very aggressive in going after Trump officials, so this would just be 2018 on steroids. If you needed a reason not to sit on the sidelines in mid-term elections, I think that would be it.
