For years now, the radical wing of the Democrat Party has been demanding that ICE be dismantled.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has never gone quite that far, but he has walked along the edge of that line.
This week, he was cornered during an interview, but he went against the party, mocking the interviewer when he was pressed on dismantling ICE.
From the moment AOC took office, she has tried to push the narrative that ICE is an illegal agency and should be disbanded.
Every time there is even the smallest controversy with ICE, AOC sends out a fundraising email to generate more campaign cash.
For instance, in May, she had sent out a letter stating, "I believe that ICE, an agency that was just formed in 2003 during the Patriot Act era, is a rogue agency that should not exist.”
That would be a rogue agency that was approved by Congress. Her narrative is bogus, period.
Jeffries has talked a lot of smack about ICE, but he has yet to pivot to the agency being completely disbanded.
I am bringing this up because I am seeing a significant pivot by Democrat leadership concerning immigration.
When Jeffries was recently asked about ICE, he stated that he needed to see “dramatic changes” to ICE in order for Democrats to back a funding bill.
He can do this now because Democrats are not in charge, and he knows he will never get enough votes to outright disband ICE. But he may get the support he needs from within his party and the GOP to make some rather significant changes to how the agency operates.
Now, I reported yesterday in the Hillary Clinton article that I am seeing a noticeable pivot by Democrats on immigration. It does appear that they finally realized the majority of the country wants closed borders, but they just don’t like the extreme measures Trump has been using.
Now they are trying to use this to their benefit, a complete 180 from their stance when Biden was in office. To that point, Jeffries was directly asked about abolishing ICE by podcast host Wajahat Ali, who stated, "Why not lead and say abolish ICE? Because what you're telling us is you want our taxpayer dollars to pay for a lawless mass armed agency to continue terrorizing our cities. And I'm trying to figure out how you, as a leader, can be telling Americans that their taxpayer dollars should be going to ICE,” Jeffries responded, "I don't understand anything that you just said."
I will admit it… I just about spat my coffee all over my computer when I heard that response. It was a great deflection by Jeffries, but it also confirmed my suspicions about a major pivot on immigration that is taking place by the Democrat Party.
The GOP better pay attention to this, and they need to get soundbites regarding the Democrats' positions from when Biden was in office to this clear pivot. Dems are looking to pounce and grab moderate voters for the upcoming 2026 and 2028 election cycle. If the GOP does call out this hypocrisy and do it loudly, well, they might as well put a ribbon on these upcoming elections.
