The Democrat playbook consists of about four or five moves when it comes to Trump.
Trump is racist, Trump will suppress voters, and voting laws are Jim Crow 2.0, among a handful of others.
Shockingly, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) was called out on live TV during a recent appearance on CNN for going against what the American people have made it clear they want to see.
The latest push by Democrats in their effort to undermine Trump is to block him from nationalizing the election process, the very thing that Democrats tried to do when Joe Biden was in office.
To be clear, I don’t support this, as it goes directly against our Constitution, but my point is about how hypocritical Democrats are on this front.
Jeffries stated, “What Donald Trump wants to do is try to nationalize the election. Translation: steal it. And we’re not going to let it happen.”
The moment Jeffries made that claim, any journalist worth their salt would have thrown what the Dems were doing right back in his face, but in this particular interview, that did not happen.
Jeffries took a shot across the bow this week that he did not expect to take. While he was able to spew rhetoric about shutting down the governmenthe government, CNN’s Dana Bash called him out on using the shutdown to pressure the administration to cut DHS, saying that if the government did shut down, DHS would continue to be funded.
The agencies that would not be funded, however, would be agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Transportation Security Administration, and the Federal Aviation Administration.
She asked him how this would help the Democrat cause, and he responded, “Well, our plan is to get there on behalf of the American people. That’s why we need to press forward aggressively and ensure that there are legislative changes enacted as part of any DHS spending bill, because that’s the way that you change behavior.”
Jeffries continued, “And these are commonsense changes, things like mandatory body cameras. Judicial warrants should absolutely be required before ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] agents can storm private property and rip everyday Americans out of their homes in such a violent fashion.”
Unlike other journalists, Bash did put Jeffries on the spot over his claims about voter ID laws. Polling has shown that Americans overwhelmingly support these laws. And not only that, but voter ID laws are in place in Virginia, where Democrats just dominated the election cycle.
Jeffries responded, “Well, first of all, every state is empowered to be able to make the decision on their own, and we completely and totally support that. What Donald Trump wants to do is try to nationalize the election — translation: steal it — and we’re not going to let it happen.”
He continued, “We stopped them in terms of their gerrymandering efforts, where they were going to try to redraw congressional maps in red states throughout the nation, not expect Democrats to respond forcefully, and try to rig them in the midterms. They failed.”
This is all spin, and while her original questions were spot on, Bash allowed Jeffries off the hook by not challenging his answer. Honestly, with the answer he gave, she should have immediately called out states like Illinois that has arguably the worst gerrymandered maps in the country. But I guess that would be too much to ask.
