Donald Trump’s frustrations with Hamas were made clear this week, as the president gave the terrorist group one last chance to sign a peace deal.
Israel had already agreed to terms in the past, but Hamas walked away, saying the proposed deal did not represent what its leaders had discussed previously with Trump officials.
After Trump gave Hamas one last chance, Hamas again refused, and Israel is taking no time at all to unleash.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Trump was done playing games with Hamas, giving its leadership a last opportunity to sign a peace deal.
Trump posted to Truth Social, “The Israelis have accepted my Terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well.”
He continued, “I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning, there will not be another one!”
It did not take long for Hamas to respond.
Some outlets had mistakenly reported that Hamas had accepted Trump's terms, but those reports were quickly rebuked as a misinterpretation of the message sent by Hamas.
Israeli journalist Lahav Harkov clarified the terrorist organization’s stance, posting to X, “A senior Hamas official totally rejected Trump's ceasefire offer as a ‘humiliating surrender document’ and said that Hamas has a ‘right’ to retaining weapons and to resistance (read: killing Israelis) -- but for some reason almost no one is reporting on it in English.”
Israel did confirm that it has accepted Trump’s deal, but stated that there were two main stipulations required for peace to take hold.
The first was the immediate release of hostages, and the second was that Hamas must be disarmed.
My belief is that Israel really wants nothing to do with a peace deal, but would sign one if pressured by Trump.
Once Hamas rejected the proposed deal, Israel went right back on the attack, with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announcing, "The IDF and ISA [Shin Bet] conducted a precise strike targeting the senior leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization.”
The statement continued, "For years, these members of the Hamas leadership have led the terrorist organization's operations, are directly responsible for the brutal October 7 massacre, and have been orchestrating and managing the war against the State of Israel. Prior to the strike, measures were taken in order to mitigate harm to civilians, including the use of precise munitions and additional intelligence.”
You guys all know where I stand on Hamas, so I have no problem with Israel moving forward with these attacks. However, if this is the route we are going, then Trump needs to go all-in right now and give Israel whatever it needs to end this war as quickly as possible. Let’s not piecemeal this out and allow it to continue indefinitely. There is no need for this to turn into another forever war, but does anyone have the stomach to deal with the headlines that will come from a decisive attack?
