I have heard a lot of insane things during my time writing about politics, but this one ranks right up there in the top five.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has charged the United States and Israel with a "grave betrayal of diplomacy," adding that recent attacks violated international laws.
And while Iran’s proxies have been terrorizing people across the region, he claims that the aforementioned American and Israeli attacks are what are undermining peace.
In June, Donald Trump approved a substantial mission to take out an alleged nuclear facility in Iran.
Trump stated, "We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.”
The president continued, "All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home.”
He concluded, “Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter."
After the attack, low-confidence reports from the Pentagon were released claiming that the attack was unsuccessful, and the media ran with that theme.
Anyone who knows anything about military intelligence knows that there is simply no way that the report could have been accurate based on the fact that there was no real assessment of the site itself at that point. We were not likely to have an accurate report for weeks or months after the attack.
The White House denied that early report, saying it was a "flat-out wrong" assessment that was leaked by "a low-level loser in the intelligence community.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth added, "Anyone who says the bombs were not devastating is just trying to undermine the President and the successful mission.”
Pezeshkian got his 15 minutes of fame at this week's U.N. General Assembly, and he chose it to attack the United States and Israel over that attack.
He stated, "The aerial assault… constituted a grave betrayal of diplomacy and a subversion of efforts toward the establishment of stability and peace.”
The Iranian official continued, "This brazen aggression, in addition to murdering citizens, women, scientists and intellectual elites of my country, inflicted a grievous blow upon the prospect of peace in the region."
Now, I take these claims and toss them in the garbage where they belong, but the United Nations may see things differently, as it has done in the past when it comes to Trump and Israel. After seeing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decried as a war criminal, honestly, nothing would surprise me.
