Democrats clearly want no cooperation with ICE, and that includes Virginia, which just elected a Democrat to replace Governor Glenn Youngkin, a Republican.
When Youngkin was in office, he signed an executive order to mandate cooperation between state law enforcement and immigration agencies.
Governor Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat, pulled back on that support, but she may want to rethink that after a recent arrest by ICE.
If Youngkin craved the spotlight, I think he would be a presidential contender, but the man just quietly went about his business.
For instance, this time last year, Youngkin signed an order to mandate cooperation between state law enforcement and federal immigration law enforcement.
His order aimed to “improve the safety of all Virginians by maximizing our collaboration with the federal government to enforce immigration law.”
When Youngkin signed the order, immigration activists complained, and local Democrats were up in arms, but the order did not get much juice on a national level.
Spanberger absolutely annihilated Republican Winsome Earle-Sears in the race, winning by 15 points.
Whether this was a statement against Trump or Youngkin’s policies is unclear, but Dems had the helm, and Spanberger immediately went to work to reverse Youngkin’s policies, especially on immigration.
She immediately issued an executive order pulling back state law enforcement cooperation, with the order stating that state police “does not engage in fear-based policing, enforcement theater, or actions that create barriers to people seeking assistance in their time of need.”
Spanberger nearly broke her arm patting herself on the back, but she may want to rethink that.
In addition to the Spanberger order, there was legislation sponsored by Virginia State Sen. Saddam Salim, D-Dunn Loring, to block law enforcement from cooperating with ICE.
Even so, Shayan Kahhal, an Iranian national, was just arrested by ICE, having a criminal history that included multiple charges relating to sodomy. Not exactly the type of person we want in this country.
Salim ousted incumbent Chap Peterson from his seat, likely because Peterson wanted to keep the Washington Redskins moniker, as well as having taken the side of keeping Confederate monuments in place.
Kahhal represents the worst of the worst that this administration has vowed to remove from the country, but he is the exact type of person who can evade federal authorities if Democrats continue to allow illegals to hide in their cities and states. Justice Roberts… it is time to settle this issue once and for all.
