Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) committed an appalling act of disrespect on Tuesday night during Trump’s State of the Union (SOTU) address.
Rather than showing even a minuscule particle of respect for the people of this country and the chamber, she wore a pin on the House floor that should disqualify her from ever holding office.
Between that and her behavior during Trump’s speech, it seems clear to me that every member of the Squad should be removed from office.
This display by Tlaib has been a slow burn over the last few months, with the far left in the party calling for ICE to be abolished.
As much as Democrat leadership wants to see major changes to ICE, it will not commit to such a drastic ax being swung at the government agency.
For instance, when House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) was asked about abolishing ICE by a podcaster who had just rattled off a bunch of polling stats, he responded, “I don’t understand anything that you’ve just said to me when I’ve made clear that taxpayer dollars should be used to make life more affordable for the American people, not brutalize or kill them.”
He continued, “That’s the whole reason we’re in this fight right now. That’s the whole reason that DHS is getting ready to shut down.”
The attacks by Democrats against ICE, I believe, are the reason we have seen so many aggressive attacks against agents, and why agents are a bit itchy when people get around them.
This is not just the stars of the party, either, but Democrats up and down the roster who are now firing shots at the agency.
For instance, Rep. Maxine Dexter (D-OR) stated, "The frank terrorism that is being invoked – when we call that out and stand together, I think people will continue to not want to do that work.”
She continued, "I’m not supposed to get political, but if there’s a change in political will, then we can absolutely dismantle and abolish ICE altogether.”
It’s all sensationalism, so they get likes and clicks on social media, but it is also serving to brainwash the left side of the aisle against the agency.
If you watched the address, you likely noticed the lapel pin of Tlaib (and it was hard to miss as the camera constantly panned to her for reactions).
There it was, plain as day… a "F--- ICE” pin.
She has made her position plain and clear, having previously stated, "ICE has no place in Michigan. This is an unaccountable and violent agency that terrorizes and brutalizes our communities every day.”
The one thing that I noticed last night was that these radical Democrats are starting to embarrass other members as well as make them quite uncomfortable in these public settings. I just have to wonder if the party, as a whole, is growing tired of these antics.
