Hakeem Jeffries hit with ethics complaint over call to oust Alina Habba from DOJ

Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) is the new martyr of the Democratic Party.

She and a handful of other Democrats inspected an ICE facility in her home state earlier this summer, but then everything went haywire.

McIver was captured on video “assaulting” law enforcement, and she was later indicted for her actions, and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has since found himself the subject of an ethics complaint over an attack against U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, who leveled the charges against the congresswoman.

Out of control

Democrats were conducting oversight on a local ICE facility in New Jersey, something that they are entitled to do, but that was not the problem.

It was after they came out of the facility that everything went sideways.

The Newark mayor tried to push his way past officers, and Rep. McIver was seen on video laying out clothesline hits that would have made Dick Butkus proud. It seemed fairly clear to me that she assaulted officers, but she, of course, said this was all made up.

Her case was brought before a grand jury, which indicted her.

Not guilty

As officers were moving in to arrest Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, McIver could be seen getting in their way, even striking a few of the officers, which was all caught on video.

Habba did things the right way, presenting the case to a grand jury and securing an indictment, but McIver still insists she did nothing wrong.

After the indictment was announced, she stated, "The facts of this case will prove I was simply doing my job.”

McIver further claimed that this was nothing more than "a brazen attempt at political intimidation." The video and the grand jury said otherwise.

Jeffries gets involved

Habba has since found herself the subject of an attack by Jeffries, who posted to X, "The so-called U.S. Attorney in NJ maliciously indicted Congresswoman LaMonica McIver for doing her job. Habba is a woefully unqualified political hack who must go."

The Article III Project responded with a letter to the House Ethics Committee, stating, "This is clear corruption by House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries,” claiming that he had "improperly insert[ed] himself into a criminal proceeding."

I would love to see this issue taken up, but the fact of the matter is that the House Ethics Committee is nothing more than a group of corrupt officials tasked with investigating other ones.

My guess is that Jeffries will skate, as we rarely see action taken by this committee that is of any consequence. The system, my friends, is broken.
