Marjorie Taylor Greene adjusts account of what she says Trump told her about Epstein files

I think I smell something that is just a bit rotten that needs to be exposed.

It addresses two of Donald Trump’s bigger current problems, namely, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and the Epstein files.

Greene recently altered her wording regarding what she says Trump told her about the files, and it has made a significant difference in terms of its potential implications.

People will get hurt

In early December, Greene gave an interview to Amna Nawaz from PBS about her fight with Trump, her impending exit from office, and the Epstein files.

Nawaz, asked Green about what Trump told her about the release of the files, saying, “When you came out to back the release of those files, you said that President Trump told you that people will get hurt if those files are released. I have to ask, what did you take that to mean? Was the president talking about himself?”

Greene responded, “I really don't know what that means, and I can't comprehend it. So, just going by what the women themselves have told me, and I have met with them several times, is, they said, that Donald Trump had done nothing wrong. Their attorney said that he was the only one that helped them years ago with Jeffrey Epstein and lawsuits and convictions.”

When pressed about what she thought Trump meant, Greene then responded, “Well, if he says people will get hurt, I don't think it's the women. I think it's maybe the men that they're talking about that they're scared to say who they are. Maybe those names are in the files. And we don't know because all the files have not come out yet.”

Changing her tune

Now, Greene's precise words are really important here because she just, rather significantly, changed the meaning of what she says Trump told her, but nobody in the media seems to have picked up on it yet.

Greene just gave another interview to the New York Times on the subject, and she now claims that Trump told her, “My friends will get hurt.”

Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) immediately latched onto this, posting to X, “‘My friends will get hurt,’ he said. That’s the Trump presidency in a sentence: Elite protecting elite. Even if they abused young girls.”

Now, if you go back and look at the context that framed Greene's remarks in the Nawaz interview, then compare that to the comments made in the New York Times interview, they are not even remotely close. Greene either covered for Trump in the first interview or she is outright lying in the second interview. I am stunned the media did not call her out by referencing the previous quote for clarity on this question, especially since the framing is so extraordinarily different.

Getting frustrated

I think that explains some of Trump’s frustrations over the fact that more Epstein documents have recently emerged at the Department of Justice.

When Attorney General Pam Bondi announced just before the holiday that the DOJ had another one million Epstein documents that needed to be reviewed and released, Trump responded, “Now 1,000,000 more pages on Epstein are found. DOJ is being forced to spend all of its time on this Democrat inspired Hoax. When do they say NO MORE, and work on Election Fraud etc.”

He continued, “The Radical Left doesn’t want people talking about TRUMP & REPUBLICAN SUCCESS, only a long ago dead Jeffrey Epstein – Just another Witch Hunt!!!”

This is not a hoax or a witch hunt, as Trump stated, but the Greene controversy now appears to be a newly framed narrative for her to take a shot at Trump. It’s only a small change, but it makes a rather significant difference in how the story is being presented.
