GOP candidate admits she is not a conservative

Is there any law that says you have to be a conservative to run for office as a Republican?

No, there is not, but it sure would seem dastardly to run as a Republican while pushing a progressive agenda.

Well, we're about to find out if North Carolina voters are zombies or actually reading up on their candidates.

Stealing a seat

The idea of infiltrating a party is nothing new, as it became a hot topic when Trump was in office the first time.

I read about several Democrats who had suggested doing something like this to steal seats away from the GOP in order to take Congress back.

What they were suggesting, however, was to present themselves as conservatives, then flip the script on voters after winning the election.

That theory was never tested, but I would have to think immediate expulsion would be explored by the party that was duped.

Switching sides

What we have seen in recent years, however, is party members on both sides who are fed up and decide to leave their party while still in office.

For example, Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) is a former Democrat, and he created quite a dustup when he switched sides.

After former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who was in office as a Democrat but is now a registered Republican and serving as Trump’s Director of National Intelligence, Van Drew applauded the decision.

Then he took a swipe at Democrats, stating, "They represent the destruction of America. I am glad others are following in my footsteps."

Telling the truth

Katie Barr is running for a House seat in NC-14 as a Republican, but she has openly stated she is a progressive, so we are about to find out if voters in that state are paying attention or not.

When she was asked if she was trying to trick people, she responded, "If you go on the campaign website, above the fold as they call it, is like, 'I'm not a real Republican.' Like, I am telling people the truth. I knock on a door and say, ‘I am running in the Republican primary, but I am not a Republican, I am a progressive.’ I can't claim a Democrat anymore."

She may not claim she is trying to trick people in public, but that is clearly what she is attempting to do here.

From my experience, the average voter walks in and pulls the handle for a letter without really knowing what the candidates are all about.

NC-14 is a solid red district, so Barr knows if she can get past Rep. Tim Moore (R-NC) in the primary, she is likely to win the seat. The RNC better get out there and expose this woman, or we could find ourselves in the position of having lost a seat we actually won.
