A former CIA director just told the American people to believe a state sponsor of terror over the president of the United States.

I am speaking about John Brennan, who served as the director of the CIA under former President Barack Obama.

This is not a one-off situation, either, and the questionable loyalty to our country goes far deeper than the ax that Brennan clearly has to grind with President Trump. Remember, this is a man who once accused Trump of committing treason after his 2018 summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki.

Who is John Brennan?

Brennan has spent most of his career in government service, save a short spell in the private sector serving as the Chairman of the Board of the Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA) and the President and CEO of The Analysis Corporation (TAC).

He started out working for the CIA in 1980 (via Britannica), primarily as an analyst, working his way up the food chain over the next 25 years to become the daily intelligence briefer for former President Bill Clinton, to CIA station chief in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and in 1999, he was named as the chief of staff to George Tenet, then-Director of the CIA.

In 2001, he was promoted to deputy executive director, then appointed as the inaugural director of the Terrorist Threat Integration Center from 2003 to 2004.

As noted above, he then briefly left government service to work in the private sector, returning during the Obama administration to work as Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism in 2009.

Obama appointed Brennan as his CIA director in 2013.

Some concerns

For those who have followed Brennan’s career, there were some flags very early on in terms of him being the main shot-caller for the CIA.

For instance, there is a report on the Hudson Institute regarding an admission by Brennan when he first applied to the CIA, where he confessed to having backed a Communist Party candidate.

He had been asked a question about barriers to recruiting a more diversified field of candidates for the agency, where he responded:

“I froze.... This was back in 1980, and I thought back to a previous election where I voted, and I voted for the Communist Party candidate."

This was during the 1976 election.

That, to me, is a serious red flag, but it did not stop his employment with the agency, obviously.

During the recent cases against Donald Trump and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor stated that he would love to see Brennan in the hot seat under oath. At the time, Brennan was crying in the media about Trump having revoked his security clearance. According to a New York Times report at the time, Brennan was considering a lawsuit against the Trump administration, which Giuliani welcomed.

The former mayor started going off about Brennan and his record, according to The Hill, concluding his rant against Brennan, stating:

“Isn’t this a guy who is an opportunist and a political hack? Who goes whatever way the winds are going?”

Spying on the Senate

The first fully documented lie by Brennan took place in 2014 when Brennan was being questioned about having removed documents from a Senate committee, which he denied.

The allegations were brought by the late Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who, at the time, was serving as the Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Feinstein accused Brennan of having searched Committee computers as well as trying to intimidate congressional investigators.

When Brennan was asked directly about spying on the Senate, Democracy Now reported that he responded:

“As far as the allegations of, you know, the CIA hacking into, you know, Senate computers, nothing could be further from the truth. I mean, we wouldn’t do that. I mean, that’s—that’s—that’s just beyond the—you know, the scope of reason in terms of what we would do. … When the facts come out on this, I think a lot of people who are claiming that there has been this tremendous sort of spying and monitoring and hacking will be proved wrong.”

Brennan, both before and after the hearing, continued to deny any wrongdoing in the media, but he was proven wrong after the CIA Inspector General investigated the allegations, which brought about calls for his resignation, even among Democrats.

According to an NBC News report, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), at the time, stated:

"The CIA Inspector General has confirmed what senators have been saying all along: The CIA conducted an unauthorized search of Senate files, and attempted to have Senate staff prosecuted for doing their jobs," Wyden said. "Director Brennan's claims to the contrary were simply not true."

Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM) agreed, stating:

“At this point it would probably be better for the agency, frankly, if he did step aside.”

Brennan remained at his post until he was replaced by Mike Pompeo during the first Trump administration.

Just to make a quick pause… at this point, we know he voted for a communist, and we know he lied under oath. Not only was he never prosecuted, but he remained at his post for another three years.

The Steele Dossier

Now we fast-forward to the 2016 election cycle, where Brennan was tied to the notorious Steele Dossier.

In July 2016, Brennan briefed Obama on the plan being concocted by Hillary Clinton to use the Steele Dossier in an effort to link Trump to the Russians for the purpose of creating a distraction away from her email service scandal, reported The Hill.

This is another digestion point… the administration and our intelligence agencies, as well as the president of the United States, are aware of Hillary’s plan, yet only days later, Operation Crossfire Hurricane was launched by the FBI.

During the early stages of this investigation, the FBI had been told by CIA analysts that the sources of the document (Steele Dossier) were unreliable, yet the FBI continued its operation, primarily based on the information in that dossier.

Regarding the dossier, The Hill reported that analysts were pushing back on it, saying that it "ran counter to fundamental tradecraft principles and ultimately undermined the credibility of a key judgment."

Brennan, according to those analysts, refused to remove it. When the flaws of the dossier were presented to him, he reportedly responded, “Yes, but doesn't it ring true.”

RealClearInvestigations later reported that Brennan hand-picked analysts that would back his play. The bottom line here, via an internal CIA email that was later revealed, was that Brennan believed “that the information warrants inclusion in the report.”

We are at another digestion point… Brennan knew he had a flawed piece of “evidence,” yet he kept it in play solely because it backed up his perception of Trump.

Lying to Congress – Round 2

Brennan clearly did not learn his lesson the first time around, and he again lied under oath to Congress in 2017 and 2023.

During his May 2017 testimony, NPR reported, Brennan told Congress that the Steele Dossier “was not in any way used as a basis for the Intelligence Community Assessment.”

In May 2023, Brennan was still holding onto that lie, once again denying that the CIA was involved in using the Steele Dossier to go after Trump. As he did with his previous lie, Brennan continued to push the lie while making media appearances after his testimony.

Current CIA director, John Ratcliffe, declassified many internal documents that revealed Brennan had lied, eventually leading to the House Judiciary Committee referring Brennan to the DOJ for criminal prosecution.

A release by the committee, in part, stated:

“In the letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi obtained by The Federalist, Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, argued that ‘Brennan made numerous willfully and intentionally false statements of material fact contradicted by the record established by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) and the CIA.”

It continued:

“Making false statements before Congress, is a crime that undermines the integrity of the Committee’s constitutional duty to conduct oversight.”

Jordan later added:

"Brennan's testimony before the Committee on May 11, 2023, was a brazen attempt to knowingly and willfully testify falsely and fictitiously to material facts."

The investigation

In July 2025, Fox News reported that criminal investigations into Brennan, as well as former FBI Director James Comey, were underway.

After the Fox News story broke, Brennan said he was “clueless” about why he would be investigated.

According to a New York Post report, Brennan had told MSNBC:

“Quite frankly, I don’t know what is true, you know. If it was a referral, if there is an investigation, presumably, if there is an investigation, people will be questioned. I would be questioned about it, but again, I’ve had no contact from them.”

Not to be sarcastic or to doubt Brennan's word, but how could he have possibly missed the results of the John Durham probe, which clearly implicated him for his role in using the dossier as well as ignoring intelligence assessments regarding the dossier.

The final dagger

There are outright lies, then there are lies of omission, of which Brennan also appears to be guilty of regarding congressional testimony.

Tablet Magazine reported that the Russians were aware of Hillary’s plan to smear Trump during the election, and the intelligence community “immediately recognized its importance.” It further reported that Brennan had “personally received a copy of the intelligence.”

In 2017, Brennan had two opportunities to divulge this information to Congress, but he chose to keep this hidden. He had also made numerous TV appearances on the subject, but again, he chose not to disclose the information.

Brennan, Comey, and James Clapper, who served as Obama’s Director of National Intelligence, all knew of Hillary’s plan. They all knew the Steele Dossier was bogus, yet they allowed the investigation into Russian collusion to run its course.

Terrorists over Trump

Before I get into Brennan’s comments about Iran and Trump, I want to go back to a speech given by Brennan in 2010 at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He stated:

“The President’s strategy is absolutely clear about the threat we face. Our enemy is not ‘terrorism’ because terrorism is but a tactic. Our enemy is not ‘terror’ because terror is a state of mind, and as Americans we refuse to live in fear. Nor do we describe our enemy as ‘jihadists’ or ‘Islamists’ because jihad is a holy struggle, a legitimate tenet of Islam, meaning to purify oneself or one’s community, and there is nothing holy or legitimate or Islamic about murdering innocent men, women, and children.”

Read that quote again and truly allow it to sink in before this next part, as it is critical to understanding the mindset of this man.

The BBC recently reported that Trump claimed Iran agreed to his main concession, which is no nuclear weapons, adding:

"I think there's a very good chance we're going to end up in a deal. And so, we're giving it five days and then we're going to see where that takes it."

Trump has been known to embellish. Nobody denies that. But what does he gain from fabricating a nuclear concession?

As one would expect, Iran denied the report, puffed out its chest, and claimed it will fight on until its desired result is achieved.

So, who do you believe in this situation? If you ask Brennan, that would be a state sponsor of terror. When he was asked about taking the word of Iran, Brennan, according to a New York Post report, responded:

“Well, I tend to believe Iran more than I do Donald Trump.”

To put it mildly, the White House went nuclear, forgive the pun. White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly responded:

“Believing a terrorist regime that has chanted ‘Death to America’ for decades over the United States of America is shameful and Trump Derangement Syndrome at work.”

White House aide Patrick Adams posted to X:

“Barack Obama’s disgraced CIA Director John Brennan backs the word of Iranian regime terrorists over the United States of America.”

Liberal-leaning mainstream media networks will make Brennan out to be a hero for daring to call out Trump, but this man is no hero. In fact, he should be behind bars.

Allen Weisselberg. Michael Flynn. Roger Stone. Michael Cohen. Rick Gates. Paul Manafort.

All of these men have some direct link to Donald Trump, and all were charged and convicted for lying under oath, making false statements, and/or financial crimes. Most of them went to jail; some were pardoned.

Brennan has never served a day in prison. He has yet to be brought into a court of law, even though there are now at least three documented instances of him lying under oath.

Instead of being in an orange jumpsuit, he is in a designer suit, sitting in a comfy chair in a news studio, telling the American people that a state sponsor of terror is more trustworthy than our president.
