Former Biden official says ex-president should have ‘bowed out’ after Afghanistan withdrawal

We all witnessed the demise of then-President Joe Biden after his June 2024 debate against Donald Trump.

Some Democrats were very upset that it took Biden so long to leave the race and believed he should have never even run for a second term.

Now, however, another official has come forward to suggest that Biden should have left office well before he abandoned his re-election bid.

The debate

Not to beat a dead horse, but most conservative writers were exposing Biden’s mental decline long before the infamous debate took place.

I can remember bringing up this topic less than a year into Biden’s term, as it was clear he was running low on energy and really struggling during stretches in which he was forced to work longer hours and remain in the public eye for days on end.

However, the debate made it very clear that Joe was out of sorts, even though Democrats offered up every excuse under the sun as to why he struggled so mightily on stage.

It still took Biden a few more weeks to drop out of the race, which I believe only happened because donor money was drying up, and party elites made it very clear they would not release additional funds until the incumbent left the race.

Pelosi chimes in

After the fact, it was clear that Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was a key player in Biden’s exit, and she did not hold back on criticism of the then-president after the race was lost.

She, at the time, stated, “Had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race."

Pelosi continued, “The anticipation was that, if the president were to step aside, that there would be an open primary.”

Biden threw a wrench into that idea by gifting the nomination to Harris about 30 minutes after he announced that he was dropping out of the race.

Should have bowed out

Now, another Biden official, former Department of Justice spokesman Anthony Coley, believes that Biden should have killed the idea that he would run again immediately after the failed 2024 withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Coley was commenting on a recent interview given by former first son Hunter Biden, when he said, "I think what Hunter Biden didn’t say is that people started losing confidence in Joe Biden -- who I love, who I worked for in his administration -- right after the Afghanistan debacle. Do you remember that? It was August of 2022, like his polling never recovered after Afghanistan."

The former spokesman pointed to that time as the moment when Joe Biden “really should have bowed out, and we should have had a robust primary process."

I have to admit, I never really thought it was in the cards for Joe Biden to run for a second term, but I think Hunter Biden's legal troubles ultimately forced his hand. I also happen to believe that Hunter’s issues are what led Joe to run for president in the first place.
