"Acquiescence to Jew-hatred is now disturbingly common among activists, leaders and even many elected officials in the Democratic Party."
Those are the words that came not only out of the mouth of a lifelong Democrat, but one who rose to become a Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice.
David Wecht has been on the PA Supreme Court since 2016. Prior to that, he served on the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. He has seen a lot, and the fact that this current class of Democrats has made him leave the party should be a bell ringer for Democrat leadership.
Fetterman Understands
In his full statement. Wecht explained what drove him to leave the Democrat Party and become an independent. According to NBC10 Philadelphia, he stated:
"Nazi tattoos, jihadist chants, intimidation and attacks at synagogues, and other hateful anti-Jewish invective and actions are minimized, ignored, and even coddled."
The statement by Justice Wecht was like a booby trap being exploded deep inside the Democrat Party, and it echoed everything that Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has been warning the party about since Trump took office. And I am sure he took no pleasure in agreeing with Wecht. His response, according to a Fox News report, was:
"As I've affirmed, I'm not changing my party — but I fully understand David's personal choice. The Democratic Party must confront its own rising antisemitism problem."
The Record Proves It
Democrats have been talking out of both sides of their mouths about the Jewish community since the Obama administration.
There was tension throughout, but the true slap across the face to Israel came in 2016 when the Obama administration abstained from United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, which declared Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem illegal. Because of this, the resolution passed. This was a massive departure from past US policy, but it made it clear where the administration and the Democrat Party now stood in terms of supporting Israel.
This has empowered anti-Israel Democrats to come front and center, staring with members of the Squad.
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has many times over criticized Israel and its relationship with the United States. For instance, in February 2019, she posted to X:
"It's all about the Benjamins baby.”
Her comment was in reference to American politicians supporting Israel. The comment was so bad, even Democrat leadership, including Nancy Pelosi, called it "anti-Semitic tropes,” demanding Omar apologize (she did), reported CBS News.
Later that month, she had also ripped people for defending Israel, stating:
"Why is it OK for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country?”
Again, the Democrat Party came out to condemn her for her statements, but she has never stopped, and likely never will.
In November 2023, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) used the phrase “from the river to the sea” on social media. This is widely considered to be a call for the complete elimination of Israel.
A censure motion was presented and voted on, passing 234-188, with 22 Democrats crossing the aisle. More importantly, 188 Democrats appeared to have no issue with her words.
After the censure, The Times of Israel posted an article to explain the meaning of the phrase, countering Tlaib’s explanation that it is “an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and coexistence.”
That same month, pro-Palestinian protesters stormed the DNC headquarters, trapping members inside, according to a BBC report. Officers were assaulted, and the Capitol Police used pepper spray to disperse the crowd. For the most part, Democrat leadership sat on its hands.
In January 2024, dismissing antisemitic concerns, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) told Columbia University’s president that "political problems are really only with Republicans,” reported the National Review. If you recall, Jewish students, at the time, were being harassed, threatened, and assaulted on campus.
In April 2024, 43 Democrats voted against a resolution in the House to condemn “from the river to the sea” as being antisemitic.
Also in April, Omar was back in the headlines for having visited Columbia University during pro-Palestinian encampments, calling some Jewish students “pro-genocide,” and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) defended her statements during a CNN interview with Dana Bash.
She has also used the phrase, “Israel has hypnotized the world,” which has been condemned by the ADL as antisemitic.
The Data
Democrats seem to think that the only words that matter in terms of influencing the actions of others are the words that come out of the mouths of Republicans and conservatives.
The violence against Trump is a perfect example. When Dems are asked if they will dial down their rhetoric, they claim innocence, just as Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) did after the third assassination attempt against Trump (to my full report on Raskin’s comments, click here). As far as they are concerned, all political violence these days lies at the feet of Trump and his administration.
But the numbers tell a different story. While the Republican Party and conservatives in general are not innocent on the issue of antisemitism, it is not saturating the party, and it is not justified or covered up the way it is on the left.
That rhetoric has clearly influenced the crazies to act on these verbal assaults they hear regularly from the left. Just look at the data table below and tell me the rhetoric from people like Omar and Tlaib has not emboldened people to take action:
| Metric | Data Point | Source | Context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Antisemitic incidents in 2024 | 1,938 incidents — highest since FBI began tracking in 1991 | FBI Hate Crime Statistics | 73% increase from 2022. Jews are 2% of the U.S. population. |
| Share of religion-based hate crimes targeting Jews | 69% of all religion-based hate crimes | FBI, 2024 | Jews represent 2% of the population. No other religious group comes close. |
| Post-October 7 surge (Oct. 2023 – Jan. 2024) | 360–388% increase in antisemitic incidents | Multiple tracking organizations | Three-month window following Hamas October 7 attack on Israel |
| Antisemitic incidents in 2025 | 6,274 incidents — third-highest year on record | ADL Annual Audit, 2025 | 33% decrease from 2024 record peak of 9,354 — but still far above pre-October 7 baseline |
| Antisemitic assaults in 2025 | 203 assaults — up 4% from 2024. Three fatalities. | ADL Annual Audit, 2025 | First U.S. deaths from antisemitic violence since 2019. 32 assaults involved weapons. |
| House censure vote on Tlaib — "from the river to the sea" (Nov. 2023) | 234–188. 188 Democrats voted to protect her. | U.S. House of Representatives | ADL has labeled "from the river to the sea" an antisemitic call for the elimination of Israel |
| House vote condemning "from the river to the sea" as antisemitic (April 2024) | 43 Democrats voted against condemning the phrase | U.S. House of Representatives | No Republican voted against the resolution |
| Antisemitism is rising across the political spectrum. The Republican Party has its own documented problems — including elected officials who have invoked antisemitic tropes. But the specific pattern of Democrat elected officials using those tropes, refusing to condemn them, and voting to protect colleagues who do is documented in the congressional record and confirmed by their own votes.

As noted above, this is a problem that is not limited to one party, but how each party addresses the issue is as different as night and day.
Democrats have party members who regularly use antisemitic tropes, and their fellow Democrats not only refuse to condemn them but also protect them.
Democrats in Maine, numerous elected officials, and party leadership are rallying behind Graham Platner, a candidate whose chest tattoo bore a documented resemblance to a Nazi SS symbol (which he has since covered up), solely to flip the seat currently held by Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME).
Fetterman was shredded by his fellow Democrats for ringing the bell on this because he saw the very dangerous direction the party was headed, and he has been alienated by leadership and membership for doing so.
Justice Wecht saw it and was so disgusted by it that he left the only party he had ever known.
The bell has been rung twice, the second far louder than the first. So, will party leadership hear it, or will they continue to ignore it and allow these radicals to completely take over the party?
That is the question voters truly need to ask themselves, as well as whether that is the party they want to belong to as we try to move this country forward.
