FBI Director Kash Patel has had a rather eventful end to the month of October.
He had not one, not two, but three major announcements this week about FBI operations.
One of them was an October surprise the agency had planned for Trump during the 2024 election that ultimately fell apart, and the other was the successful thwarting of a planned terror attack on Halloween here in the United States.
Sometimes, the people who are supposed to be the good guys turn into bad guys, and that appears to be what happened in Mississippi, according to the FBI's announcement of more than a dozen arrests that included members of law enforcement.
The FBI uncovered a drug trafficking conspiracy that ran through Mississippi and Tennessee and involved a significant number of law enforcement personnel.
Co-deputy FBI Director Andrew Bailey announced, "Let this be a lesson for those sworn to service the public. If you're a good law enforcement officer, the FBI will always stand with you.”
He continued, “But for those corrupt individuals who abuse their office, we will come for you and hold you accountable. To all Americans listening: The FBI will never stop protecting from these kinds of abuses of authorities."
Patel and the FBI also appear to have saved Halloween for Michigan residents, getting ahead of an alleged terror plot that was reportedly planned for this weekend.
The director stated, "This morning, the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend.”
He continued, "More details to come. Thanks to the men and women of FBI and law enforcement everywhere standing guard 24/7 and crushing our mission to defend the homeland."
I have said this before about Patel, but it is worth repeating. For all the talk from Democrats about him, the man is doing a good job in terms of actual operations. Can anyone seriously remember the FBI being this active in announcing major busts and getting ahead of terror plots like this?
There was one more announcement from Patel and the FBI, but I am sure this is not the one on which the media and Democrats will be focused.
Patel reportedly found an October surprise investigation meant to try to derail the Trump campaign toward the end of the 2024 election, investigating possible campaign finance fraud stemming from the fact that an employee of the campaign had visited a casino after American Made Media Consultants (AMMC), which was being used by the Trump campaign, had been paid for services rendered to the campaign.
The intelligence bulletin at the time stated, “FBI Washington Field Office assesses the use of AMMC as a clearinghouse for Trump campaign spending is likely vulnerable to campaign finance crimes by campaign-connected sub-vendors.” The agency had “low confidence” that any crime had actually been committed, however.
The assessment from the agency was made solely on the basis that the Trump campaign official had visited the casino in close relation to the timing of the funds being paid to AMMC… that was the extent of their case. House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) responded, “[It] looks like this was just the same old weaponization, same old political focus, focus on politics, going after your political enemies.”
