The temperature in our immigration war has been rising noticeably over the last few weeks.
Democrats are trying to make moves to dox and/or arrest ICE agents for enforcement actions taken in their cities.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is now warning those Democrats to tread very carefully.
The first blood was really drawn in this battle by Judge Jeffrey I. Cummings, who was appointed to the bench by Joe Biden.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson was writing executive orders that would allow local police to arrest ICE agents, so this ruling from Cummings was exactly what Democrats wanted to see in terms of preventing ICE from conducting operations in their cities.
Cummings ruled that ICE had violated federal law by arresting people without warrants, and his order then made the possible arrest of ICE agents in cities like Chicago a reality.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) responded to the ruling, saying that the agency “complies with all lawful court orders and is addressing this matter with the court.”
Democrat Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has been front and center during this battle, lying through his teeth to present ICE in a negative light.
This week, Pritzker claimed, "They’re literally going after Black and Brown people because of the color of their skin.” That, of course, is a lie. ICE is going after people for their immigration status, not due to the color of their skin.
He continued, "We want the bad guys off the streets. What we don't want is for people to get racially profiled. That's what's happening right now."
Then came the fearmongering, adding, "Early on in an authoritarian regime, wherever it is in the world throughout history, this is what happens. It's the beginning of something very bad for a country, especially a constitutional republic."
Along with Illinois, California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been hammering the administration and ICE, now threatening to impede immigration operations within the state, but the DOJ has had enough.
After Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) also threatened to arrest ICE agents, U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche responded, "We just sent them a letter: Stand down or face prosecution. No one threatens our agents. No one will stop us from Making America Safe Again."
This is all because the Supreme Court, to this point, has refused to address the legal status of sanctuary cities.
Virtually every U.S. Supreme Court decision on immigration enforcement has ruled that it falls under the purview of the federal government, so I fail to understand how cities and states can pass local legislation purporting to override that power. If we don’t get this issue settled soon, we are literally going to have blue states at war with DHS.
