Democrat senators react to criticism from Cory Booker

It is more apparent than ever that there is a massive divide within the Democratic Party.

This has also led to a fight for leadership, as several high-profile Democrats are making power moves to raise their profiles, possibly ahead of a run at the White House in 2028.

At the top of that list is Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), who now finds himself at odds with several of his fellow Democrat senators.

Marathon speech

Since Democrats don’t have the numbers in the upper chamber, they have resorted to being obstructionists, using ridiculous tactics to delay votes.

As an example, Booker recently delivered a marathon speech of 25 hours and five minutes, setting a record for a sort of pseudo-filibuster on the Senate floor.

He was treated like a rock star after the speech, but it served no purpose at all other than to delay the inevitable. After his speech, Senate Minority Leader Schumer (D-NY) stated, “Your strength, your fortitude, your clarity has just been nothing short of amazing and all of America is paying attention to what you’re saying. All of America needs to know there’s so many problems, the disastrous actions of this administration.”

Schumer should be paying attention because Booker is clearly coming for his post.

Just stop it

Booker ran for president in the 2020 election, but he was nothing more than a footnote in the overall scheme of things. He is clearly trying to make another run at the White House or vying for a Senate leadership role.

So, now he is lecturing his fellow Democrats who worked with Republicans on a policing bill that they believed would benefit their constituents.

Booker stated, “This, to me, is a problem with Democrats in America right now. We’re willing to be complicit with Donald Trump.”

He was speaking specifically to Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), who worked with Republicans to try to advance the packages.

Shut up

Masto went right after Booker for his lecture, stating, "I don’t need lectures from anyone on how to push back and fight this administration. I’ve been doing it since I got to the Senate, because I won my Senate race in 2016 and Donald Trump won at the same time. I’m also from a swing state; I’ve still got to get stuff done on behalf of my state.”

She later added, "I’ve been doing it since I got to the Senate, because I won my Senate race in 2016 and Donald Trump won at the same time. I’m also from a swing state; I’ve still got to get stuff done on behalf of my state.”

Masto is right. While we fully expect Democrats to fight against partisan legislation, they need to pass bills that will benefit their constituents, which is what she believes this particular piece of legislation did.

People like Booker have forgotten that they are in office to represent We the People, not play obstructionist and pursue a personal agenda. America made it very clear in the 2024 election cycle that it wanted to see change from the last four years. Masto got the memo, but Booker clearly did not, so let’s hope the voters of New Jersey let him know about it and knock him off his high horse. Sadly, we all know that won’t happen, as Democrat voters these days are programmed to pull the handle, every handle, with the letter “D” next to it.
