During Donald Trump’s first term, Democrats impeached the president twice in the House, but the efforts fell short in the Senate.
After Trump struck Iran, there was a revived effort by Democrats, mostly in the House, to have him impeached again.
That effort not only fell short, but now some Democrats are being criticized by members of their own party for grandstanding.
Once again, Rep. Al Green (D-TX) has tried to put together an impeachment against Trump, and once again, he has failed.
You may remember Green from his outburst during Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress earlier this year, but I, unfortunately, have to see this man nearly every day in the news in Texas.
Green believed that Trump’s precision military strike against Iran was a declaration of war without congressional approval, but he is clearly mistaken, and members of his party are calling him out for it.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) offered to give Green his moment in the spotlight, knowing the resolution would never pass in the House, and it went down in flames, with a vote to table his ridiculous resolution passing 344-79, with more Democrats voting against Green than for him.
In addition to the impeachment effort being put down, John Bolton, who served as Trump’s National Security Advisor for a hot minute, then publicly came out against Trump, believes that the president got this one right.
Bolton stated, "Well, let me say this unequivocally: I think President Trump made the right decision for America to attack Iran’s nuclear weapons program. And I think we’re on the verge of potentially seeing regime change in Iran as part of that."
He went on, “I think this is a huge change in the Middle East. It was a decisive action. It was the right thing to do. I thought somebody should do it for a long time. But better late than never.”
Even former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), who worked with Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on the January 6 Select Committee, applauded, posting, “The US attack on the nuclear facilities is, in my opinion, the right call. We will see what the results are, but now the key is suppressing surface to surface missile fire, and then negotiate to end the fight with Iran. Good call by the President.”
Not only was the impeachment effort defeated, but some Democrats in office mocked AOC and Green for their latest efforts.
Enter Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), who told Fox News, "Of course, no [he should not be impeached]."
Fetterman added, "She knows it. I know it. We all know it… that's not going anywhere. He's been impeached twice, and now he's still our president as well too, so it's not going anywhere, and I don't think [bringing it up is] helpful."
I continue to believe that most of our lawmakers have lost interest in legislating and working together for We the People but are instead only interested in creating viral moments to fund their campaigns, and that is what AOC and Rep. Green created with this impeachment talk. It accomplishes nothing. It never had a chance of passing, and they knew it. But they moved forward anyway so they can include it in their fundraising emails to drive donations for their 2026 campaigns. What they should have been doing was standing behind our president to show unity to our enemies.
