Sometimes, you just need to put your personal issues aside and do what is right.
Sadly, that did not happen on Christmas Eve, as a holiday concert was canceled.
Why, you ask? Well, because the performer does not like Donald Trump.
This all got started earlier this month when the new board of the Kennedy Center voted to add Trump’s name to the marquee.
There are a lot of legalities to this that still need to be hammered out, but the board claims it had a unanimous vote (some members disagree). This being a monument, it requires an act of Congress to rename it, so that will all have to be worked out in the courts.
Not only that, but when Trump’s name was added to the Center, they put Trump’s name above Kennedy’s.
Trump acted as though he had no idea this was happening, stating, “I was honored by it. “The board is a very distinguished board, most distinguished people in the country, and I was surprised by it. I was honored by it.”
As noted above, you cannot simply rename a monument, as there are federal laws in place to prevent this.
To that point, Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH) is now suing to have Trump’s name removed from the marquee of the Kennedy Center.
Her lawsuit states, "[I]n scenes more reminiscent of authoritarian regimes than the American republic – the sitting President and his handpicked loyalists renamed this storied center after President Trump.”
The White House credited Donald Trump with saving the Kennedy Center, then added, "As a result, the Board of the Kennedy Center voted unanimously to rename it the Trump-Kennedy Center — a historic move that marks a new era of success, prestige, and restored grandeur for one of America's most iconic cultural institutions.”
It being a holiday, one would think that even the most liberal of individuals would set politics aside so as not to ruin tradition, but that was not the case for Chuck Redd, who has hosted the Christmas Eve jazz concert at the Center for nearly two decades.
Redd was so upset over the addition of Trump’s name to the Center, he canceled his Christmas Eve performance.
He stated, "When I saw the name change on the Kennedy Center website and then hours later on the building, I chose to cancel our concert.”
I get the outrage over adding Trump’s name to the center, which was meant to serve as a monument to John F. Kennedy, but ruining the holiday and what was likely a family tradition for thousands of people is a bit selfish. Sadly, I expect to see this continue to happen as long as Trump’s name remains on the Center’s marquee. The left just cannot help but be triggered by Trump.
