Democrats are raging against Donald Trump’s federal crime crackdown in D.C., but the fact of the matter is that it is working.
Crime has dropped considerably in the capital city, with even murder rates declining compared to years past.
It turns out that Chicago, one of the cities reportedly being targeted by Trump for further action, used the president's crackdown method nearly a decade ago, and it worked.
Democrats want to make the recent crime-fighting initiative to be some type of racist attack by Trump against Black Democrat mayors, but that is just a blatant twisting of the facts.
The top 10 cities in this country in terms of murder rates all have Democrat mayors, even the ones located in red states, and most of those mayors are Black.
That is not a racist statement; that is just a fact, but it is one to which Democrats don’t want to admit.
D.C. was not even in the top 10, but cities such Baltimore and Detroit were, as were several cities, such as St. Louis, MO, which has a Republican governor, and Memphis, TN, which also has a Republican governor.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been copying all things Trump lately, and that would include the president's crackdown approach, with the governor recently deploying California Highway Patrol units across the state to help suppress crime.
This tactic is literally the same thing that Trump is doing in D.C., but everyone is acting like the president is the bad guy.
And while Newsom is touting the notion that such action is part of his job as the governor, not Trump’s, we have to ask why it took him so long to get into gear.
More importantly, why is the media not hammering him about this? Why did it take Trump to threaten to release the National Guard to get Newsom to jump in and protect law-abiding citizens?
Going back to 2016, the city of Chicago tried a similar tactic to fight crime in its neighborhoods, and, no surprise, it worked. However, the program, which used federal agents to help fight crime, was canned by city officials because they did not like the optics of it.
During the initiative, crime dropped by 41% across the city, and violent crime in the worst areas of the city saw a significant drop, as the presence of more police clearly had an impact, but again, Democrats were more worried about the optics of the move rather than the results of it.
Former 1st Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County Robert Milan explained, “No mayor wants to be the first mayor of Chicago to ask the National Guard to come in to patrol the streets for public safety. I was told that.”
So, we are now back to people like Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson making long-winded speeches to score political points by defying the bad orange man rather than doing what is right. I hope the people of Chicago are listening.
