The nemesis of Attorney General Pam Bondi during her time in office has been the Epstein files, and now it is all about to come to a head. Bondi is being called before the House Oversight Committee to give a formal deposition.
Bondi is used to being on the defensive from Democrats, as they have accused her of hiding files to protect President Trump from day one. They even said they were going to impeach her over it.
Now, however, she finds herself in a position to have to defend herself against a Republican-chaired committee that has been “investigating” these files for months.
In February of this year, Bondi found herself taking hits from all the heavyweights on the House Judiciary Committee.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), never one to shy away from the dramatic, introduced Bondi to some of Epstein’s known victims during the hearing. According to Politico, he stated, “To promote justice for the people, you’ve got to listen to the victims, like the women seated behind you today.
“Those are just some of the hundreds of survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s global sex trafficking ring who are demanding that the truth be told and are demanding accountability for the abusers who trafficked and raped them.”
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) took it to another level, demanding that Bondi turn and face the victims who were in the room, to which Bondi replied, “I am not going to get in the gutter for her theatrics.”
This is all sport for politicians, as they love to parade victims before the cameras under the guise of helping them. In reality, they are nothing more than live props to be used to score points.
The Senate was no different than the House. For years, people like Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) ignored the files, but now that they thought they had Trump set up for the kill shot, he was pulling out all the stops.
Several weeks after the House hearing, ABC News reported that Schumer stated, "We're here today to put a shot across the bow of the Department of Justice and the Trump administration that we are going to reveal this massive cover-up. We will not rest. It's an all-out oversight effort, we're going to pull on every thread. We're going to chase every lead. We'll talk with whistleblowers."
Then came the threats to impeach Bondi over this alleged cover-up. Again, let the fact that all these people who were expressing outrage either had access or could have requested access to these files when Biden was in office, but they declined to do so. This was political theater, nothing more.
The House Oversight Committee, which is chaired by Rep. James Comer (R-KY), is now calling Bondi and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in for a chat, according to a Fox News report.
It was reported earlier that Lutnick had personal ties to Epstein and had even visited the famed island, albeit with his family in tow.
The DOJ says it is not hiding anything and that it has been as transparent as possible, releasing the files as quickly as possible. We know where Democrats stand, but now there are Republicans who are starting to wonder if Bondi has been as transparent as she claims to be.
In my first report, I stated that these hearings were more of an exercise to clear Trump than to truly dig into the Epstein files, and I still believe that. However, I am also on the record saying that I think Trump felt crossed when Bondi released these files, but he does not want to be the one to fire her because of the optics. Could the dual purpose of these hearings now be to squeeze Bondi so hard to the point she cracks, says enough, and walks away? I will just let that sit with you for a moment, then tell me if you think my gut is wrong.
