I am going to go out on a limb and say that Democrats are seething right now after the actions of New Mexico’s governor.
Amid the federalization of D.C. law enforcement by President Donald Trump, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has just declared a state of emergency in one of her state's counties.
The reason… crime. Not only crime, but the types of offenses that are going to feed right into the GOP narrative about immigration issues created by the former Biden administration.
The overwhelming narrative being pitched by Democrats and the media against Trump is that he embodies authoritarianism.
While Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser initially accepted the idea of federal law enforcement help, someone must have gotten into her ear because now she is pushing the anti-Trump narrative as well.
Do yourself a favor and Google the term “Dems say Trump authoritarian,” and you will see a front page of nothing but headlines from mainstream outlets pushing this same theme.
These are not just Democrats who are quoted, by the way, but also a host of publications hammering Trump on this narrative. This is just one of the reasons why I say we have state-run media in this country now.
Reviews have been mixed, but local police seem to be in favor of Trump's move.
I have been watching social media on this front, and while there is some pushback regarding the use of the National Guard, I see a lot of positive reactions to the Feds helping out local police.
Again, I would have preferred that Trump had merely offered the assistance of federal authorities, simply from an optics perspective. The takeover itself is what has Democrats outraged, which is why I think that a partnership, offering Bowser whatever help she needed, would have played better in the media.
To that point, after a murder that just took place in D.C., I have already seen Democrats placing the blame on Trump, and that was my main concern in all of this.
Grisham has just complicated things for Democrats by declaring a state of emergency in New Mexico, stating, “The surge in criminal activity has contributed to increased homelessness, family instability and fatal drug overdoses, placing extraordinary strain on local governments and police departments that have requested immediate state assistance.”
Now, if you look at that statement, what is likely the one underlying factor that is contributing to this?
If you guessed Biden’s loose border policies, you would be correct.
Now Democrats have to figure out how to applaud Grisham for doing the very same thing that Trump just did, and that is not going to be easy.
