Early Wednesday morning, reports broke of a deadly shooting at a local ICE facility in Dallas.
Agents and detainees came under sniper fire during a standard movement of detainees, with one individual in that group reportedly shot and killed, and two more wounded.
The shooter died of a self-inflicted wound, so we are still waiting for police to reveal a possible motive, but reports have started to surface that at least provide some initial insight into what we saw today.
Ever since Donald Trump took office, attacks against ICE agents have been on the rise.
At last check, that is now up over 1,000% from the same period last year.
My belief is that these attacks are taking place because of the rhetoric being used by Democrats against ICE agents.
For instance, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) has called them “deranged.” AOC has regularly called for the abolition of ICE, claiming it was illegitimately formed in the first place. Numerous Democrats have likened the agents to the Gestapo, playing off the Nazi angle Dems regularly use to attack Trump.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has now joined this fight, signing legislation that would make it illegal for agents to have face coverings during raids.
Mask-wearing is a common practice for undercover agents or those who are working in an environment where, if their identities were exposed, it could lead to threats against them or their family members.
Newsom has decided to make this practice into something nefarious, scoring a few political points with the liberal horde with a law that will likely be defeated in court.
The governor stated, “Unmarked cars, people in masks, people literally disappearing without due process, no rights in a democracy where we have rights, and we have the right to push back to stand up and push back and that’s what we’re doing.”
Police are still investigating the motive of this morning's event, and I don’t want to speculate, but I will tell you what we know happened.
And that is that agents and detainees came under sniper fire, with one detainee killed and several others wounded.
The shooter reportedly took his life via a self-inflicted wound as agents were closing in. It is now also being reported that anti-ICE messages were inscribed on the bullet casings found at the scene.
Again, I don’t want to speculate, but regardless of motive, how do you not blame the dangerous rhetoric as the cause of the shooting? This needs to stop, and it needs to stop immediately.
