When a man sits on a roof from 200 yards away and kills an innocent man in front of his children for exercising his right to free speech, call me crazy, but I really don’t see how you can have an empathetic take on anything he has done.
That, however, was not how an ABC News reporter approached text messages from the alleged assassin to his trans partner/roommate.
Sadly, this was far from the first time the media tried to spin a yarn when it was a conservative on the wrong side of an act of violence.
Former MSNBC host Joy Reid was fired for good reason, several of them, actually. She was not offering news reports, but giving voice to twisted opinions and acting as though they should have been received as facts.
For instance, even after she was dismissed by MSNBC, Reid dared to spin the first Trump assassination attempt as nothing but a bogus conspiracy, as though it was all a setup and the then-candidate was not really hurt.
Discussing the incident, Reid stated, “He’s got these magical doctors who claimed that he was shot in the ear, but his ear, I guess, grew back.”
She continued, “He had a Dukal bandage on one minute, no bandage the next. We can’t get a medical record from this alleged assassination. He was supposedly shot. We have nothing. We’ve got no -- we can’t even ask.”
Now-former MSNBC contributor Matthew Dowd was the next one to spin silly theories after Kirk's killing.
First, Dowd suggested that Kirk could have been accidentally killed by a MAGA supporter who was shooting their gun off in celebration, but it got far worse.
Kirk talked about topics nobody else dared to discuss in public, which was the focus of Dowd’s comments that got him fired. He stated, “He’s been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups. And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions.”
Dowd continued, “And I think that is the environment we are in. You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place. And that’s the unfortunate environment we are in.”
ABC News correspondent Matt Gutman's Tueday report on the alleged assassin was undeniably repulsive, as he tried to charitably present a side of the killer that, according to profilers, only shows his lack of remorse and narcissistic behavior.
Gutman, describing the text messages exchanged between the alleged assassin and his trans partner/roommate, stated, "But, also, it was very touching in a way that many of us didn't expect. A very intimate portrait into this relationship between the suspect’s roommate and the suspect himself, with him repeatedly calling his roommate, who is transitioning, calling him ‘my love.’ And ‘I want to protect you, my love.'”
He continued, "So, it was this duality of someone who the attorney said not only jeopardized the life of Charlie Kirk and the crowd, but was doing it in front of children, which is one of the aggravating circumstances of this case. And then, on the other hand, he was, you know, speaking so lovingly about his partner. So a very interesting and … riveting press conference."
This is all an effort by the mainstream media to secure public empathy for a madman, and it cannot be tolerated. Gutman probably thinks he will get some type of award for the spin he was able to put on this scenario, playing more director than journalist. Just report the news, leave the storytelling for the movies. I have to say, I have never been more repulsed by the mainstream media than I was when hearing these reports.
