Democrats and several Republicans have objected to Donald Trump’s drug boat strikes, so they are really about to be upset.
It would appear that Trump has given Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth the go-ahead to start conducting land-based operations to further his battle against the drug trade.
If this does happen, you had better believe that Democrats are going to come after the president with every trick in their toolbox.
If you recall, Trump stunned everyone in October when he announced that he had approved the CIA to conduct operations in Venezuela.
Now, honestly, having the CIA operate in this theater is not a surprise, but I would never have expected Trump to divulge that information publicly, if for no other reason than to prevent suspicion on the part of Venezuela.
Trump, at the time, was asked about land-based operations, and he stated, “We are certainly looking at land now, because we’ve got the sea very well under control.”
I don’t think it was a coincidence that soon after Trump announced that, Venezuela declared that it had apprehended mercenaries operating in cooperation with the CIA.
Democrats threw a hissy fit when the drug strikes were first made public, as was expected. If Trump does it, they protest against it.
I have been astounded by the fact that Trump has somehow managed to get Democrats to defend criminals and cartels, and they continue to do so simply because the president is the one trying to stop the flow of drugs into this country.
When Trump announced the operations, the Democrats presented legislation to block funding for them.
Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) sponsored the legislation, and it was backed by Reps. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), Eugene Vindman (D-VA), and Jake Auchincloss (D-MA).
Trump sent a shockwave through Congress on Thanksgiving when he announced that he wanted Hegseth to start land-based operations. Trump stated, “From sending their poisons into the United States, where they kill hundreds of thousands of people a year -- but we’re going to take care of that situation.”
He later added, “You probably noticed that now people aren’t wanting to be delivering by sea, and we’ll be starting to stop them by land also. The land is easier, but that’s going to start very soon.”
Then, at least to me, it sounded like he gave Hegseth the go-ahead to start, adding, “I’d like to just tell you, ‘Let’s go.’ We’ll go. We’re going to tell them what we’re going to do, and I think they’re going to probably like it, except for the radical left lunatics.”
Conducting operations on another country’s soil is a far cry from carrying out strikes in international waters. This will be resisted in Congress, and if Democrats take over the House in the 2026 cycle, they will definitely use this issue to try and impeach Trump. I am all for going after cartels, but I just don’t see this ending well for the president if he decides to move forward on this. And don’t forget, there are a handful of senators who are against these strikes, so Dems could pull off an impeachment if it comes down to it, that is, if they also take back the Senate.
