When Joe Biden approved the resettlement of Afghan nationals after his disastrous withdrawal, many of us were up in arms.
Biden literally left American citizens behind enemy lines, yet he made sure he took in tens of thousands of Afghanistan nationals to our country.
At the time, we were worried about the vetting process, and our worst nightmare just came true as one of those migrants allegedly shot two National Guard members. So, I cannot help but go back to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas admitting that the vetting process was not what it should have been.
Republicans were asking questions about the vetting process almost immediately when the resettlement program started.
For instance, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) had written a letter to then-Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and then-DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on the process in place.
She wrote, “The Biden Administration’s security vetting procedures to clear Afghans entering the country remain unclear and incomplete, and, unless changed, are insufficient to preserve the safety of the American homeland.”
There were no complaints about resettling individuals who had helped American forces, but we still wanted them fully vetted, but that was not taking place.
As this process was playing out, then-Secretary Mayorkas made a rather shocking admission.
During a Senate Judiciary Hearing in November 2021, just a month after Ernst had sent her letter on vetting, Mayorkas admitted, “We are not conducting in-person, refugee interviews of 100 percent individuals.”
A letter had also been leaked from a U.S. diplomat at the time, showing how lax the process had become. It stated that “anyone with a valid form of ID” who met the evacuation standards used for citizens would board the planes for the United States. It also permitted families, “including women and children,” to be passed through.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed the lack of a vetting process, as Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) asked him, “What percentage of [Afghans] were vetted before they actually got on those planes?” Blinken responded, “Before they got on their airplanes to leave Kabul? Certainly not, most of them were not.”
When it was revealed that the alleged shooter in the attack against Guard troops in DC was one of Biden’s refugees, Trump went off.
He stated, “I can report tonight that based on the best available information, the Department of Homeland Security is confident that the suspect in custody is a foreigner who entered our country from Afghanistan, a hellhole on Earth."
Trump continued, “He was flown in by the Biden administration in September 2021 on those infamous flights that everybody was talking about.”
Democrats will counter this by saying that few incidents in this country have been traced back to the migrants, but I say even one incident is far too many. Had they never been permitted to enter the country, this never would have happened. All these one-off incidents, as Democrats love to characterize them, are adding up to hundreds, if not thousands, of needless attacks and deaths. Every drop of blood being spilled falls directly on Biden’s hands.
