Trump says immigration crackdown efforts have not gone far enough

One of the key issues for Donald Trump in the 2024 election cycle was immigration.

Now, thanks to the president, we have all-time lows in terms of crossings, and ICE is continuing workplace raids to round up illegal immigrants.

Some of the videos going around, however, have upset people, and when Trump was asked whether he thought his administration was taking things too far, his answer was one that will surely not sit well with liberals.

All-time lows

Trump has clearly delivered on his immigration agenda in terms of curtailing illegal crossings, as the United States is now seeing all-time lows in modern history in that realm.

So far, the administration is seeing fewer than 9,000 illegal crossings each month, numbers that we have not seen since 1970.

Jennie Murray, president and chief executive of the National Immigration Forum, stated, "The numbers demonstrate progress on border security.”

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson added, "As a result, Americans are safer -- unvetted criminal illegal aliens and dangerous drugs are no longer pouring over our border unchecked. And for all the Democrats who claimed it was impossible to secure the border or that they needed new policy, turns out all we needed was a new president."

Workplace raids

In defense of Trump, he always stated that his administration would deport everyone who came into the country illegally, and that is what he has attempted to do.

The administration went after the hardcore criminal illegal immigrant element first, but it was also conducting workplace raids to round up large groups of migrants unlawfully working in this country.

During a recent interview, border czar Tom Homan was asked if the raids would continue, and he responded, “The message is clear now that we’re going to continue doing worksite enforcement operations, even on farms and hotels, but based on a prioritized basis. Criminals come first.”

He then went on to say that the reality of these raids is that other illegals will also unavoidably be caught up in the net. And if they are here illegally, they will be deported.

Not far enough

As the media does these days, only the worst of the worst cases make the headlines, and some incidents in which legal residents or citizens were scooped up by authorities by mistake, or cases in which ICE had to be more aggressive because of people resisting apprehension, have been posted all over headlines and social media.

Trump gave an interview to CBS' 60 Minutes this weekend, and he was asked whether he thought that ICE raids were going too far.

He responded, “No, I think they haven’t gone far enough because we’ve been held back by the judges, by the liberal judges that were put in by Biden and by Obama.” When Trump asked if he was okay with the “tactics” being used, he did not hesitate, “Yeah, because you have to get the people out.”

I agree with Trump, and I give him props for standing firm as the heat continues to rise on this issue. We have to control immigration because the trickle-down effect is devastating to this country and to our economy. It’s the uncomfortable thing that nobody has wanted to discuss or do anything about, but Trump has been fearless on this front. Deport them all, I say, especially since Democrats are not willing to sit down and even begin to discuss immigration reform for this country.
