I recently stated that I thought Donald Trump made a huge mistake by revealing the fact of CIA activities in Venezuela.
The president also went so far as to state that he was considering a land attack against Venezuela’s drug operations.
Trump's strategy has now backfired, as Venezuela claims that it captured a CIA asset who was working on a “false flag” operation that would have given the United States the reason it needed to conduct a strike against the country.
Trump recently revealed that his strategy against Venezuela’s drug operations could be changing from strikes against alleged cartel boats in international waters to an actual land attack.
One administration official stated, “There are plans on the table that the president is considering.”
Trump confirmed these reports in the media.
However, that was hardly the big news of the day.
Two weeks ago, the chief officer of the Southern Command, Adm. Alvin Holsey, unexpectedly announced his plans to retire, which coincided with Trump’s decision to expand operations to possible land assaults.
At the same time, Trump also announced that he had authorized CIA operations in Venezuela, a move that stunned everyone. It was not so much that the operations were authorized, but rather the fact that Trump openly admitted it, possibly putting the operatives at risk.
When Trump was asked about the approval, he responded, "I authorized for two reasons really. Number one, they [Venezuela] have emptied their prisons into the United States of America. And the other thing are drugs. We have a lot of drugs coming in from Venezuela, and a lot of the Venezuelan drugs come in through the sea, so you get to see that, but we're going to stop them by land also."
Tensions are already high, but I stated at the time that this would only make President Nicolas Maduro even more paranoid and would likely put him on the hunt for possible operatives working in his country. It just seemed like a foolish announcement for Trump to make, in my opinion.
Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez has brought my worst fears to reality, announcing that his country captured a mercenary group that had been linked to the CIA.
He stated, “A false flag attack is underway in waters bordering Trinidad and Tobago or from Trinidadian or Venezuelan territory to generate a full military confrontation with our country.”
Venezuela claimed it had evidence of this, but it did not produce it to the media, so right now, this is just their word against that of the Trump administration, but we all know how that works with today’s media. Both the media and Democrats are going to pounce on this scenario to claim that Trump is starting a war.
The announcement comes just after Secretary of War Pete Hegseth deployed the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group to the Caribbean Sea last week. It also comes after Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) did an interview with 60 Minutes, hinting that something big was about to happen. He even recommended that Maduro flee the country now while he has a chance. Be the claim true or not, this is going to create some massive problems for Trump.
