Melania Trump has always been the subject of attacks from the media, but she took great exception when people tried to tie her relationship with her husband to Jeffrey Epstein.
It all got started with a report in the Daily Beast over claims by author Michael Wolff, allegations onto which everyone seemed to latch, including Hunter Biden.
Mrs. Trump then went on a lawsuit flurry, threatening billion-dollar suits to force retractions, but now she is the one being sued.
When the aforementioned Daily Beast story was published, it claimed that Epstein had more or less put Melania and Donald Trump together, doing so in a report that was titled, “Melania Trump ‘Very Involved’ in Epstein Scandal: Author.”
The author of the piece was Wolff, who claimed, “She’s introduced by a model agent, both of whom Trump and Epstein are involved with."
He continued, "She’s introduced to Trump that way. Epstein knows her well.”
Melania immediately went after the publication, and the article was retracted with an apology, but the damage was done, as everyone from James Carville to Hunter Biden cited the story to attack Mrs. Trump.
Most people who cited the story were subsequently sued or legally threatened by Mrs. Trump, including Hunter Biden and Carville.
Carville later apologized and took his remarks down, but Hunter Biden referenced the report during an interview with YouTuber Andrew Callagan.
Hunter, during the interview, stated, "Epstein introduced Melania to Trump -- the connections are so wide and deep." He further claimed that any release of the Epstein files would implicate Donald Trump in wrongdoing, but no evidence has since emerged that would be the case.
Melania Trump responded by issuing the threat of a $1 billion defamation suit against Hunter, but Hunter refused to back down, saying he would not rescind the comments and apologize to Melania.
Wolff, the originator of the quote in the Daily Beast report, is now suing Melania Trump, claiming that her camp is threatening anyone who talks to him about his claim of her ties to Epstein.
The suit claims that the Trump camp is trying "to silence their speech, to intimidate their critics generally, and to extract unjustified payments and North Korean-style confessions and apologies.”
Mrs. Trump's office responded, "First Lady Melania Trump is proud to continue standing up to those who spread malicious and defamatory falsehoods as they desperately try to get undeserved attention and money from their unlawful conduct.”
This is a huge case not only for Melania Trump, but for the entire Republican Party. If Wolff wins this case, it will likely result in more people grabbing onto his quote to try to use it against Donald Trump and the GOP during the coming election cycle. However, if Wolff loses, my guess is that Melania Trump will become super aggressive in going after individuals for defamation, a group which, of course, still includes Hunter Biden.
