Yesterday was not a good day for DonaldTrump, but most of the hits he took were manufactured by the Democratic Party and the media.
The outrage over Trump's White House renovations is idiocy, but the president just added fuel by announcing that the entire East Wing will now be demolished for a new ballroom.
Additionally, Trump is taking fire over a demand that the Department of Justice pay him $230 million in damages resulting from the investigations mounted against him before he returned to office.
I want to be very clear about this… I absolutely love the idea of this remodel for the White House, as we need a facility to host large state events.
The first true expansion of the East Wing took place during the Theodore Roosevelt administration, and then in 1942, the complex saw a major expansion to become what we have today, work that was done with the primary purpose of covering the presidential bunker.
Trump had initially announced that the main structure itself would not be touched and that just a walkway would be torn down, but he stated this week that, after further review, it was necessary to demolish the entire East Wing to build the new ballroom.
Again, I don’t think this is anything to be upset about, because I think that the White House needs a showpiece ballroom capable of hosting major events. The recent controversy is nothing more than TDS on steroids, as we have never before seen outrage like this over a White House renovation (the Obama administration also undertook substantial renovations of the White House).
Unfortunately for Trump and Republicans, all the sensationalist posts on social media about the project are getting through to the American people.
There was, of course, a poll taken on whether the American people support the renovations, and I was shocked to see that 53% were against Trump's project.
Even among Republicans, support for the work was not overwhelming, with only 63% expressing approval. It’s sad to say, but this situation now appears as though it will impact the 2026 election cycle. Keep in mind, Trump is not touching the primary structure of the White House, and the East Wing is not really all that big, relatively speaking.
The unfortunate reality of this is that when the project is completed, I am sure people will love it and will be in awe of how much better that part of the White House looks.
All of a sudden, suits filed by Trump’s attorneys are hogging the headlines, but again, these complaints were filed long before the president moved back into the White House.
Collectively, the legal filings seek $230 million, with one complaint leveled back in 2023 over the Russian interference probe, and the second filed in 2024 regarding the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case.
Trump tried to calm the waters on the uproar, stating, “I don’t know what the numbers are. I don’t even talk to [the legal team] about it. All I know is that they would owe me a lot of money, but I’m not looking for money. I’d give it to charity.”
The media and Democrats, however, are making it out like Trump is stealing money from the government, as it would be his DOJ that would have to approve or deny the requests. Regardless, taxpayer money would be used to pay for any resolution. If I were Trump, solely for image purposes, I would have these cases dropped immediately. Even if he gives resulting damages to charity, the optics on this will be devastating for the Republican Party.
