Donald Trump has been scouring the books to decide which programs he will eliminate during the ongoing government shutdown.
According to reports, multiple programs have been identified, and Trump's decisions are sure to drive Democrats right to the end of the cliff.
One of the departments said to be on the chopping block is part of Secretary Robert F. Kennedy’s Health and Human Services Department, and it is one that, according to the administration, has been pushing gender ideology and abortion policies in the federal government.
The current shutdown is now the third longest in history, and it looks as though it will break the record, which was set during Trump’s first term, when the administration and Democrats squared off over immigration funding.
Trump has ordered Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to pay our troops during the shutdown, just as the GOP blocked legislation being put on the floor by Democrats to advocate for that funding.
Money, however, is running thin, and though the U.S. Supreme Court ran out of money on Sunday, it will continue to conduct essential operations.
Patricia McCabe, the court's public information officer, announced, "The Supreme Court will continue to conduct essential work such as hearing oral arguments, issuing orders and opinions, processing case filings, and providing police and building support needed for those operations.”
There are many on the right-hand side of the aisle who believe that one of the reasons that Democrats refused to cave earlier and accept a GOP concession on Obamacare subsidies was because they wanted to have far-left No Kings protests be the focus of this past weekend.
There were about 2,600 events held nationwide, and I have seen reports of more than seven million in attendance throughout the country, making this among the biggest nationwide demonstrations ever held.
What I found most interesting was how ill-informed many of the protesters were, as the man-on-the-street interviews calling out various policies were truly epic. This was the cult of the left following the orders of its leaders.
What was also interesting was that we had people like Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) talking about Trump, who has been in office for less than five years in total, acting as though he were a king, when collectively, these two have been in power for more than eight decades.
Employees at the Office of Population Affairs (OPA) under HHS were recently told that their positions are being cut via reduction-in-force (RIF) notices.
The department’s mission statement claims that it is advancing “reproductive health outcomes and adolescent health and wellbeing by supporting high-quality clinical services, evidence-based and innovative programs, rigorous research and evaluation.” Critics, however, say it is doing nothing more than pushing Democrat policies.
Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL), who had been advocating for these cuts even before the current shutdown, applauded the administration's move, stating, “The Office of Population Affairs has long used taxpayer dollars to advance the leftist agenda targeting children and the unborn. I applaud the Trump Administration’s efforts to root out far-left programs in the federal government that undermine the very fabric of our country.”
I applaud the move as well, as I do not believe federal taxpayer money should ever be used to pay for partisan pet programs. These bloated endeavors are exactly why this country is swimming in debt, and it is about time some common sense is used when it comes to the government’s budget.
