Former first-term Trump administration official Alyssa Farah Griffin once promised to wear a MAGA hat on The View if the president managed to secure the release of Israeli hostages.
She failed to live up to that promise this week, and when Donald Trump was asked about her statements, he did not hold back.
The View also made headlines this week for having Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s wife on the show, doing nothing but grilling her about her husband's positions during the entire segment.
Just prior to Trump taking office, Griffin made the promise to wear the MAGA hat on-air if Trump could get the remaining hostages freed.
She stated, “If he gets the Israeli hostages out, I promise, I will wear a MAGA hat for one day on this show and say ‘thank you for doing it.'”
On Monday and Tuesday’s shows, Griffin failed to keep that promise, although she did comment about the deal on X.
She posted, “My reflections on the peace deal between Israel & Hamas. The President & his team deserve tremendous credit for this historic diplomatic achievement, the return of the hostages, & end to bloodshed. Pray this peace holds.”
When Griffin did not wear the hat as promised, Trump was asked about the former staffer, and he offered up what has become a canned response regarding former officials who have since turned against him.
Trump stated, “I’ll tell you about Alyssa. She worked here, she gave me the most beautiful letter when the time came up, the election was rigged, I left. She gave me the most beautiful letter you’ve ever seen. I was ‘a great president. What a great job.’”
He continued, “Some of the letters have been quoted, this is Alyssa, who I never thought was very outstanding. I figured she would not make it. And she didn’t have a big role here either. And then we had January 6 and she left after that or before that. But she gave me the most beautiful letters. And even the months after she left and while we weren’t here any longer, she sent other letters. [A] glowing letter, [a] beautiful letter. And then she got hired by The View and they gave her a couple of bucks and she changed her view very quickly.”
Trump then added, “I never thought she would make it. I never thought she had what it took in any way. But she’s on The View. But it just shows what a fraud The View is.”
Shockingly, The View invited Cheryl Hines, the wife of Secretary Kennedy, on the show this week, but it only took a few minutes into the segment to realize that it was poised to be an ambush of sorts.
For instance, co-host Sunny Hostin called Kennedy’s endorsement of Trump “striking” considering the history of his own family, stating, “This was striking given the Kennedy name and Kennedy legend with the Democratic Party. And you write in your book that friends called, voicing concerns, saying, ‘You can’t let Bobby do this. He’s going to get Trump elected. You’ve got to stop him.’ Obviously, that didn’t happen. How did you feel about his decision to suspend his campaign and support Trump, and did you share any concerns that you may have had about that?”
Hines handled herself well, responding, “Well, I always share all of my concerns with my husband. I had not been a political person … So with Bobby, that was a very difficult decision to make with President Trump. It was a crazy year and a half with Bobby running, and at the end of the day, President Trump and Bobby sat down and talked, and yes, they did have a lot of common goals. So it was very important for President Trump and for Bobby to work together and say, 'No,' Americans are not going to pay more than other countries for our drugs.”
I still find it rather amusing that liberals hold the Kennedy name up as emblematic of a sort of royalty in this country, seemingly forgetting all the scandals that have surrounded the family throughout the decades. I am not going to dump on anyone’s grave, but JFK and Robert Kennedy, Sr. were hardly saints, and we could say the same about multiple other members of their clan. It would have been nice of the show hosts to do a thoughtful interview with Hines to let Americans see what she is all about, but it was just another ambush of the Trump administration by liberal talking heads.
